Overview of the 2024 Acura TLX

The 2024 Acura TLX is a sedan that gives you a little bit of everything. It’s roomier than the typical small luxury sedan but not as big as a midsize model. That middle ground applies to pricing too. But you do get a lot for your money.

For instance, the TLX comes standard with a sunroof, heated seats, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance, features that typically cost extra in competing sedans. The TLX is also sharply styled and backs it up with enjoyable performance, especially in the 355-horsepower Type S version.

For 2024, the Acura TLX gets a refresh A redesigned front bumper is maybe its most obvious change, but on paper, the TLX’s starting price grows higher too as Acura has squashed its entry-level Base trim. The rest of the lineup gets a new gauge cluster and infotainment screen, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The TLX also earns Urban Gray Pearl and Liquid Carbon Metallic paint options and three new wheel options.

Engine and Performance of the 2024 Acura TLX

The base trim of the 2024 TLX features a 272-hp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder lashed to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and Acura’s all-wheel-drive system, which is called SH-AWD and shuffles power among the wheels to improve agility and traction, is optional. The TLX’s terrific chassis tuning made it very entertaining to drive and proved that Acura can still build a sports sedan. This sentiment is especially true of the higher-performance Type S, which boasts a 355-hp turbo 3.0-liter V-6, a responsive 10-speed auto, SH-AWD, and a sportier suspension setup.

The all-wheel-drive system of the TLX contributes to more agile and controlled body motions while you’re navigating tight turns. The steering lacks communication, but when you turn the drive mode selector to Sport the wheel gains some heft, which feels better suited to spirited driving.

Also, the inclusion of the 10-speed transmission is a massive improvement over the last-gen nine-speed automatic, though it still isn’t quite perfect.

Fuel Economy in the 2024 Acura TLX

The front drive of the 2024 TLX comes with an estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Models equipped with SH-AWD see those figures drop to 21 mpg city and 29 highway. The TLX Type S is rated at up to 19 mpg city and 25 highway. However, the MPG of the Acura TLX is much worse compared to that of the Audi A6 or the BMW 5-series.

The Interior Features and Quality of the 2024 Acura TLX

There’s a lot to like about the TLX cabin. It’s easy to find a good driving position thanks to the seat’s ample amount of travel in all directions and the similarly generous tilt-and-reach range for the steering wheel. The large door openings and gently tapered roof help you enter and exit the vehicle gracefully. On the downside, there’s not enough rear leg- or headroom, and tall folks will feel uncomfortably close to the roof.

Experts note that the TLX’s main interface, which consists of a display screen and trackpad controller, can be annoying and distracting to use. The trackpad mimics your inputs like a touchscreen, but it isn’t large enough and lacks the precision needed to successfully navigate the numerous virtual buttons on the screen at any one time.

Every 2024 Acura TLX features a 12.3-inch infotainment system that’s primarily controlled through a touchpad on the centre console. Some functions can also be manipulated via steering-wheel buttons and physical controls next to the touchpad. There’s also a padded resting place for your wrist below the touchpad that makes it more comfortable to operate.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard but cannot be operated wirelessly; some rivals offer wireless phone integration. There also aren’t any USB ports in the back, which is strange for a luxury car.

In addition to enjoyable performance, the TLX delivers a comfortable driving experience. The front seats are nicely padded and the rear seats are angled back for a relaxed seating position. That said, the front seats aren’t highly adjustable, and the side bolsters provide little support for performance driving.

Safety Features in the 2024 Acura TLX

While the 2024 Acura TLX comes with loads of driver-assistance safety features, only a handful of these features appear as standard in the 2024 Acura TLX. These features include the forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, the lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and the blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
