Automotive markets are fast becoming saturated with SUVs and for a good reason. They’re great family vehicles, usually with good cargo space to haul around anything. Toyota SUVs are still rolling off cars in the production line, and they’re some of the most reliable on the market.

But which ones have the best reliability ratings? Critics have rated each to help you narrow down your choice. Let’s look at the highest-rated 2020 Toyota SUVs and crossovers.

The RAV4 Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid Reliability

It’s interesting that two of the most reliable Toyota SUVs are hybrids. The hybrid RAV4 and the Highlander received high scores from critics. With a reliability score of 4 out of 5, the RAV4 Hybrid performed better than the regular RAV4 model, which received only a rating of 3.

Also, the hybrid version had an overall score of 8.3 out of 10, which included performance, interior, and safety. They gave the regular model an overall score of 8.1. The Highlander earned a reliability rating of 4.5, which is the highest-scoring SUV.  Like the RAV4, though safety has yet to be determined, this SUV scored well in performance but lacked in interior styling.

The Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser’s Reliability

Another high-rated SUV is the Toyota 4Runner, which was rated a 4. Other reviewers gave it an overall score of 7.1. It excelled in safety but scored low in performance and interior. Even the critics’ rating brought only a 6.6.

The Toyota Land Cruiser was another high-scoring SUV for reliability. Reviewers gave it a 4 as they did the 4Runner. The Land Cruiser received slightly better ratings. Its performance was more than a point higher than the 4Runner, but the critics’ rating hardly changed much. Safety, however, has not been scored yet.

Still, the Land Cruiser had poor fuel economy, getting only 17 mpg on the highway and 13 in the city. And with its cramped seating, the third row left much to be desired. The 4Runner impressed critics with its off-road capabilities and large cargo space. But it failed with its fuel economy, getting only 16 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway.

The Toyota Sequoia Reliability

The Toyota Sequoia is no exception in Toyota’s lineup of reliable SUVs. This model impressed J.D. Power. Its reviewers rated it 4 out of 5. However, critics weren’t as happy with the Sequoia. Reviewers gave it an overall score of 6.8, with the lowest rating given for the outdated interior. The performance garnered a rating of 7, no doubt thanks to the motor, which generates 381 hp.

Fuel economy was a major disappointment in the Sequoia. Though you’d expect poor fuel scores in large SUVs, the Sequoia simply failed to bring decent EPA ratings to compete with some of its rivals. It barely manages 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Sequoia failed to impress with its towing capacity. Though it can handle up to 7,400 pounds, it just doesn’t measure up to the competition.

Which Toyota SUV is the Most Reliable?

Toyota has several SUVs on the market that score high in reliability as well as performance and safety. It’s not unsurprising, though, because the automaker has been around the block for quite some time and built a solid reputation for producing dependable vehicles.
