The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser GR-Sport is a thoroughly new Land Cruiser. Exterior design
Starting with the exterior design, the GR Sport differentiates itself from all the other Land Cruisers thanks to a version-specific body kit. This includes a redesigned front bumper with “Toyota” lettering and less chrome on the large grille, more vertical side intakes, and unpainted plastic cladding on the lower part with a skid plate.
Along with a new engine line-up, Toyota, controversially, decided to ditch the legendary V8 powerplant for the Land Cruiser 300 range. Under the enormous hood of the GR Sport now sits a more powerful and fuel-efficient, 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine as shared with its stablemates.
Engine
The GR Sport is available with both engine options of the Land Cruiser Range without any performance gains. More specifically there is the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline unit producing 409 hp (305 kW / 415 PS) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque, and the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel producing 304 hp (227 kW / 309 PS) and an impressive 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Both engines are mated to a Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission which helps with the fuel economy, sending power to all four wheels.
Aesthetically, the Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport comes with a unique muscular presence. The GR badge, no doubt, gives it plenty of kudos. Gazoo racing detailing comes with black exterior trim accents, including the wheel arches, door handles, and mirror surrounds. Moreover, the 18-inch matte alloy wheels are unique to the model and look stunning. However, the most conspicuous feature is the enormous black honeycomb radiator grille with the decals Toyota and GR Sport emblazoned across it.
The enormous cabin is surprisingly modern and very well-equipped with excellent fit and finish, as you would expect from the Japanese marque. Importantly, the LC 300 interior has undergone a major revamp, in terms of tech and ergonomics. Feels more luxurious than any previous Cruiser.
