Lexus is about to launch 2 new SUVs of very different flavours, First will be the all-new Lexus TX 7-passenger SUV. The TX will essentially be a Lexus version of the new Grand Highlander, using the TNGA-K architecture and offering a powerful hybrid powertrain, AWD, and of course more space inside than an RX. (RX-L is dead, this is essentially the replacement for that) So far we know there will be a TX500h and a TX350.

Under the hood will be a variety of powertrains including a top spec HybridMAX unit from the Grand Highlander, making up to 362 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and all-wheel drive from Turbo 4 cylinder.

There likely will be a 2.4L Turbo 4 option without any hybrid assistance making around 265HP along with a base hybrid model using a 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder making 243HP. Expect up to 5,000lbs of towing an 0-60 in 6.3sec for the Hybrid MAX option.

Then comes the new 2024 Lexus GX teaser, revealing the bold front facia and rear light bar. The new GX will ride on the TNGA-F architecture shared with the LX, Tundra, Sequoia, upcoming new Tacoma, and upcoming new 4Runner.

The current GX has been on sale for 14 years so, this is a welcome upgrade. Gone is the V8 and in its place will be a Twin Turbo V6 along with a possible I-Force MAX hybrid option though that second one isn’t confirmed yet.

Unfortunately, Lexus has let the SUV languish for several years without a significant update, but that’s changing for the 2024 model year. The automaker recently teased the redesigned 2024 Lexus GX, showing its beefy styling and hinting at its off-road prowess.

To be clear, Lexus has only shared two carefully cropped images of the new SUV, but we can draw plenty of clues from Toyota’s recent vehicle launches. For example, we expect the new 2024 GX to share a platform with the Lexus LX, Toyota Sequoia, and Toyota Tundra.

Toyota and Lexus have moved away from the burly V8s of SUVs past in favour of turbocharged V6 gas and hybrid engines, and the redesigned Lexus GX will likely pick up a hybrid option in the form of Toyota’s i-Force Max powertrain. However, the significant off-road capability is a given, and the SUV should keep much of the 6,500-pound towing capacity of its predecessor.
