The Hyundai Sonata is one of the biggest market competitors of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. For the 2025 model, this is not much update. In addition to the retained powertrains and performances, it also has a great interior and some really good entertainment features. The starting price of the 2025 Hyundai Sonata in Nigeria is about 55 million naira.

In view of the short reviews of both the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata, let’s take a look at the comparison to determine which sedan has the best value for money.

Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata Comparison

Comfort

The Hyundai Sonata offers a bit more room for passengers in the back seat than the Toyota Camry. The Hyundai Sonata will be a favourite with taller drivers due to its greater front head- and legroom than the Toyota Camry.

Convenience

You’ll be making about the same number of stops at the gas station with the Hyundai Sonata as with the Toyota Camry, as they get the same number of miles per gas tank.

Cost

There are a lot of factors to consider when calculating the overall cost of a vehicle. The main consideration is the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). The Hyundai Sonata is somewhat more expensive than the Toyota Camry.

Fuel Economy

Looking at fuel economy, the Toyota Camry Hatchback has significantly better mileage. The Toyota Camry Hatchback gets 32 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway. Comparatively, the Hyundai Sonata gets 28 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway.

Performance

The pure-gasoline Toyota Camry makes 169 – horsepower from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Meanwhile, the pure-gasoline Hyundai Sonata lineup offers three engine choices, including a 180-horsepower 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder or one of two 2.5-litre four-cylinder engines making either 190 horsepower (naturally aspirated) or 290 horsepower (turbocharged).

Both of these sedans are FWD, but with the Camry, you can only get a CVT transmission. The Sonata has either a robust eight-speed automatic transmission or a high-performance eight-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.

With somewhat higher torque, the engine of the Hyundai Sonata transmits a bit more power to the wheels than the Toyota Camry.

Warranty

For the Hyundai Sonata, the basic warranty length is 5 years, and the basic warranty miles of 60000 mi. For the Toyota Camry, the basic warranty length is 3 years, and the basic warranty miles of 36000 mi.

Judging by the comparison listed above, the conclusive observation is of two ways:

  1. If your major purpose in owning a car is long-term reliability, and likely lower overall ownership costs, the Toyota Camry is the best choice for you.
  2. If you’re optioning for more advanced features, as well as a longer warranty, the Hyundai Sonata is the best choice for you.

Remember, both Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata have their pros and cons. Your choice depends on your personal preferences.
