The 2025 Sonata is a midsize sedan available in four trims: SEL, N Line, SEL Hybrid, and Limited Hybrid. Hyundai did a lot of updating in the 2024 Sonata last year. No changes were made to the 2025 Hyundai Sonata from the 2024 Hyundai Sonata.
Engine, transmission, and performance
The 2025 Hyundai Sonata has the same engine options as the 2024 model. There’s a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 191 horsepower, and you can choose between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. For a more powerful option, there’s a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 290 hp, available with front-wheel drive. The Sonata Hybrid will have a combination of a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and an electric motor, making a total of 192 hp, with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai keeps its regular automatic transmission instead of using the more common continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) for the 2025 model of the Sonata.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Hyundai Sonata has different fuel efficiency depending on the type. The hybrid version can go up to 44 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 51 mpg on the highway. But regular Sonatas with front-wheel drive get up to 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. If you choose the all-wheel drive option, the highway mpg drops slightly to 34. Turbocharged 2.5-litre Sonatas have an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

Since it’s a carryover model, the 2025 Hyundai Sonata is likely to keep the same exterior design as the current model. This means it will maintain its bold and daring look, with an angular front fascia featuring a thin light bar across the hood width and large rectangular air vents. The back will continue to have T-shaped taillights connected by a horizontal bar, a built-in rear spoiler, and angular lines on the bumper.

Comfort is improved with the gear selector moved to the steering column, creating more storage and cupholder space. The centre armrest now has an extra palm rest for added relaxation, while the updated materials expand across the dashboard and into the rear-passenger space, making the Sonata look like an even better bargain than it was before.

The infotainment includes a big dashboard display with two 12.3-inch screens—one for the driver and the other for controlling infotainment. 2025 Hyundai Sonata Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Hyundai’s SmartSense package of driver-assistance features is standard and has features like automatic high-beam assist, adaptive cruise control, and a driver-attention warning that senses tired or distracted drivers. The Sonata’s top-level limited trim can even pull in and out of a parking space while you wait for it from outside. It has other safety features which include standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
