What To Avoid When Repainting Your Car

Something is wrong if you repaint your car in Nigeria and it doesn’t appear fresh and new. And in this blog, we highlight errors that the majority of Nigerian automobile painters make. Re-spraying your car is all that “car painting” really entails. You may need to re-spray your car for a variety of reasons, including following an accident or simply because you want it to look brand new again. Whatever it is, reading this essay is the best thing you could have done for yourself today.

Have you ever wondered why, if an automobile is being sold locally, Nigerians like to inquire, “Is this the first body?” It’s because many Nigerian vehicle spray painters don’t properly re-spray cars.

After painting, not buffing or waxing the vehicle

There are various kinds of car paint. Some people need to wax, while others don’t. The paint on your car needs to be waxed and then polished for the best sheen after a glossy or metallic paint job has been completed. Because their instructors did not teach them in this manner, many Nigerian spray painters are unaware of this procedure.

In Nigeria, waxing and buffing is a recent method of car spraying that was introduced in 2010. One technique to prolong the life of your car’s paint is by waxing and buffing, which removes minor scratches from the surface. The automobile looks brighter and has a superior glossy finish at the end of the process.

The best tool for waxing a car is an electrical buffer. If the spray painter wants to charge you more, please let him do so because only by using this method can your painting be as effective as it can be.

How often should one polish their car? It should be done every three months to maintain the finish of your paintwork. The price of waxing in Nigeria ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 Naira, depending on the location of the waxing workshop.

Spraying cars in an unclean oven

Assuming you are aware, your cat should only be repainted in a facility equipped with an automated baking oven, also known as a car paint booth, in 2023. For instance, the majority of low-cost spray painters in Lagos, Nigeria, have a spray booth outside of their stores where they paint the automobiles of their customers.

When spraying in an oven, painters make the mistake of opening the doors carelessly while the oven is baking the spray, allowing air into the oven. When the oven door is opened, dust is drawn inside and adheres to the freshly painted cars, lowering the quality of the job.

The filters in the oven need to be cleaned as frequently as the filters in the vehicle paint sprayer since they hold a lot of dust as well. The oven must also always be clean. Nigerian spray painters should always keep their spray booths clean and airtight so that we can always have that premium shine.

An oven is only ever opened when an automobile enters or exits the room. Additionally, dust ruins finished paint jobs left in the workplace for an extended period of time. This is one of the reasons you should always have car covers with you in your vehicle. It enables the painter to finish painting your car and cover it up.

Avoid using paint removers

When your car needs to be repainted with a different colour, paint strippers should be used to remove the previous paint. However, many of our spray painters in Nigeria simply prep the car while the old paint is still completely on it. The body of an automobile thickens when it is resprayed while the previous paint is still adhered to it. Paint strippers can be used to remove nearly all of the paint from your car’s surface so that it can be resprayed.

Paint strippers can be purchased by automobile owners for their spray painters and subtracted from the cost of the painting job. They can range in price from 12,000 to 25,000.

Not properly removing the car’s interior before preparing

How could a car be completely resprayed without a strip-down procedure? I’m not sure if this is because you folks don’t like paying spray painters how they want. To allow the spray to penetrate deeply into the car, the car’s components are removed during a strip-down. The exterior removable pieces, such as the headlights, grilles, doormats, door handles, insignia, and others, must all be taken off and stored safely.

If possible, your car can be stripped like this before it gets sprayed. Stripping a car needs to be done first. All the screws and other fasteners must be kept safe so that the car can be coupled back up the way it was manufactured. I have seen a car’s headlight almost fall out because somebody didn’t tighten a screw as it ought to be done.

Painting an automobile on a shoddy base

This is a literal application of the proverb “As you make your bed, so you lie in it.”

We frequently observe Nigerian auto painters applying a clear layer of spray to improperly prepared automobile bodies. This preparation, which includes the Bondo application, primer stage, and basecoat paint level, makes a car body evenly smooth so that the paint can make the car look brand new. Some painters believe that a car that is getting a fresh coat of paint won’t ever appear brand new afterwards, yet all the automobile paint jobs I’ve seen abroad have made the cars look just like they had been recently purchased. In fact, people are painting their cars so that they can look exactly like new ones once again.

Maximum attention is needed when preparing a car through the body filler stage, the rust repair process, the dent repair process, and the smoothening process.

If your spray painter never reads this, you have the authority to avoid all of these errors. Under the guise of customer happiness, you can either educate them or impose the proper procedures.

Re-spraying an automobile shouldn’t lower the value at which it can be sold; rather, it should increase it.
