Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto are the major reasons many car lovers upgrade their cars today. Now, both features will be taken away from cars, and what will car lovers do?

With Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, you can sync your phone to your screen and integrate many of the apps from your phone right to your car’s infotainment screen. But, one car company, General Motors, plans on removing Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto compatibility for its new cars starting with their 2024 model.

General Motors Is Ditching Apple CarPlay & Andriod Auto

The majority of General Motors’ cars come with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto more than any other car brand. However, the car brand is partnering with Google to design a new interface.

The new interface will primarily slot into GM’s new electric vehicles, and there’s no word yet, on whether phone apps will continue to stay relevant on gas-powered cars and trucks. Today, over 80% of vehicles support Apple CarPlay.

However, when the new General Motors interface launches, Andriod or iPhone users can still listen to music in their car using the industry standard and long-lasting connection device—Bluetooth.

Why Is General Motors Ditching Apple CarPlay & Andriod Auto?

A General Motors engineer, Edward Kummer, told an online publication that the General Motors brand doesn’t want to lock car users into having access to connectivity only when they use a particular type of cellphone.

General Motors is moving forward to develop its self-driving technology, and locking people into an Apple or Android system can overcomplicate a system. Instead, the brand wants its cars and trucks to be independent thinkers.

Conclusion

General Motors is making plans to quickly replace the Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto from their vehicles starting in 2024. The reason is that this will limit the access some car owners who don’t use Andriod phones or iPhones had with the CarPlay and Andriod Auto.
