On the 31st of April, 2022, Nigeria’s Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami distributed over 50 exotic cars to supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress ahead of the governorship primary election in Kebbi State.

Last Thursday, the Attorney-General declared his intentions to run for the Kebbi State Governorship seat. And, only a few days after his public declaration, he drew public attention with the exotic cars he was gifting APC supporters.

This lewd distribution of cars amidst a looming primary election has triggered the general public. Many are wondering where the Chief Law Officer of the country, a political appointee, could get billions of Naira to purchase the cars given out.

“In a sane country, all these political jobbers ought to be on the money laundering suspect list. The APC government has manifested their looting prowess in this coming elections,” said a Facebook user, Uchenna Thomas.

Another user says, “How much were Malami’s salary and allowances as Attorney General of the federation for 7 years? How can he honestly afford to buy these luxury cars if he is not corrupt? And his nephew is the Boss at EFCC. Nigeria is really a fantastically corrupt nation.”

Another user named Aliyu Akanza wrote, “He’s fighting corruption with Mr. president when he became a minister. What was he doing now in seven years? He’s distributing SLK and Toyota. No problem, continue.

The purchase and giveaway of over 50 cars say nothing else but that at least, up to 10 million Naira has been spent purchasing just one Mercedes Benz. The mathematics of the total number of cars will certainly depress any Nigerian. Especially, considering the level of economic depletion in the country.
