There are people who find it a habit of limiting themselves to cars that people in their clique have bought, recommended or spoken about when they are looking for which new car to buy but the truth is that, there is a big new world of automobile pleasures and surprises that are yet to be discovered. You may have seen some of them on the road and wondered if they would fit into your budget.

Latest 2022 Cars To Expect In Nigeria – Prices, And Pictures

This article would make you clear your doubts. The prices here are estimates based on a survey of popular auto dealers in Lagos and an analysis of car prices in the USA, including shipping costs to Lagos and tariffs. But only Carmart.ng prices have been quoted in this article for Nigeria because dealers on the platform disclose any existing faults and major previous repairs that many other Nigerian dealers that sell cars salvage from accidents and floods which make the cars appear cheaper because the costs of fixing the issues connected to the damage are not factored into the price.

If you are looking to buy a new car in the New Year and your budget is around N10 – N15 million, here are a few cars you should look at:

2020 TOYOTA COROLLA

The much-improved 2020 Toyota Corolla compact sedan has moved to a new global platform and has most of the underpinnings, amped-up tech and nicer trim that was previewed on the 2019 Corolla Hatchback but it adds a good backseat and trunk. There are a couple of sedan versions that get the hatchback’s added zip under the hood. The Corolla also comes in a high-mileage hybrid model that uses the Prius powertrain.

This vehicle has long been the safe choice for sedan shoppers, with both a well-earned reputation for dependability and the emotional appeal of an appliance. It also comes with an affordable price of N10 million – N11.9 million.

2020 HONDA ACCORD EX AND LX TRIMS

The 10th-generation Accord was a winner out of the gate in 2018, which made people fall in love with Honda’s midsize sedan all over again. There are no changes for the 2020 model, but that is hardly a bad thing. The Accord is stylish and comfortable, and it hits big with utility. Most of the Accord’s rivals have been refreshed or redesigned over the past few years, but Honda still shines in the class. On the road, the Accord is quiet and smooth, with our biggest complaint a bit of excessive tire noise at highway speeds. The car’s 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space is among the biggest in the class, and the passenger area offers lots of bins and pockets for phones, sunglasses, water bottles and more.

Honda packs in a good bit of technology into the Accord, too. The LX is sold for N12.3 million while the EX is sold for N14.3 million in Nigeria.

2020 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 8

The 2020 Volkswagen Golf is a compact hatchback available in a single, well-equipped trim, dubbed TSI. There is a turbocharged 147-horsepower four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and an eight-speed automatic is optional. There is only one trim, so your Golf decisions boil down to which of six colours to get and which transmission you want. If you want more features, you will have to upgrade to the sporty Golf GTI. Its base S trim approximates Golf TSI equipment, with upper trims adding touches such as leather seating and navigation. The price for this car is N9.8 million.

2020 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE (7 AND 8 PASSENGERS)

The 2020 Toyota Sienna features flexible seating and cargo arrangements, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa connectivity, a responsive V6 engine and available all-wheel drive. On top of that, it is sharper to drive and much easier to load with people and gear than the typical three-row SUV. The Sienna can be equipped in either a seven or an eight-passenger configuration, with power or manual third-row operation. The third row tumbles down into the floor, while the second-row seats can be removed to make a vast cargo area. One distinctive feature of the Sienna is a small jump seat that is located between the second-row captain’s chairs. It allows you to carry an additional passenger in no time. When you do not need the middle seat, you can easily remove it and stow it away, giving second-row passengers room to stretch out. The 7-seat configuration costs N13.5 million while the 8-seat configuration costs N14.4 million.

2020 TOYOTA CAMRY

If you are looking to get a car that combines efficiency, durability, and style, then Toyota Camry should be among the top cars on your list. Just like its brand sister Toyota Corolla. Toyota Camry has for long been one of the best-selling brands of Toyota cars worldwide. This classy brand has been made quite affordable to both the middle and first class. Since it stormed the market over 30 years ago, Toyota Camry has consistently stunned the automobile market in Nigeria. It ranks among the most in-demand cars and has been one of the highest-selling Toyota brands since 2010. You can get a used 2020 model for a base price of N9.1 million.

2021 HYUNDAI VENUE DENIM

This N9.4 million 2021 Hyundai Venue Denim compact SUV is an absolute steal for the price. The Denim is 10 inches shorter than Mini’s biggest model which is the Countryman and it echoes from the outside, largely because of its shape and two-tone paint job. The Denim is the only Venue model currently offered with two-tone paint, and its blue body is paired with a white roof. Every version of the Venue comes with a 121-horsepower, four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission. Most buyers would not notice the difference between a CVT and a regular automatic transmission.

2020 NISSAN VERSA

The Nissan Versa has held the title of the “least expensive car in America” for over a decade. The 2020 Nissan Versa starts about N820,320 more than the model it replaces. However, this price increase gets you a modern-looking, better-driving Versa with more standard features than the outgoing model.

The redesigned Versa is 2.3 inches lower, 1.8 inches wider and has a 1.6-inch-longer profile than the previous generation. Its styling bears a strong resemblance to its larger sibling, the Nissan Altima, which is a big step up for the subcompact. With the price, the increase comes more features than before. Formerly top-trim-exclusive features such as power windows, power locks, and keyless entry with push-button start are now standard on the base S trim level.

The new non-turbocharged 1.6-litre engine makes 122 horsepower and 114 pound-ft of torque, an increase of 13 horsepower and 5 pound-ft over the old model. It is paired with a new continuously variable automatic transmission as well. Overall, these changes add up to a significantly better car than the one it replaces. The Versa is worth considering if you need a subcompact car with modern features. It comes with a starting price of N6.4 million

2021 KIA SOUL S

The 2021 Kia Soul puts the “fun” in funky and functional with its distinctly boxy design and remarkably roomy cabin. The subcompact SUV has rivals such as the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Kona but the advantage is that the Soul is much cheaper. It comes at a price of N8.4 million. Kia offers buyers the choice between two gas-powered four-cylinders, one of which is a powerful 201-horsepower turbocharged engine.

While Kia markets the Soul as an SUV, the vehicle’s lack of all-wheel drive and limited ground clearance make it seem like more of a large hatchback. Still, it possesses entertaining driving manners that complement its eccentric nature. The 2021 Soul is not so fuel efficient, and the base model does not offer any driver-assistance features.

2020 HYUNDAI ACCENT

The new fifth-generation Hyundai Accent is now in its second production year but remains a fresh entrant in the subcompact sedan segment while rivals like the Ford Fiesta have aged substantially. Despite being a relatively entry-level proposition, the Accent offers numerous upscale items as optional extras, like increased safety from the available autonomous emergency braking, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. A lonely 130 horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine does duty beneath the hood, driving the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, but with prices ranging from N6.2 million to N7.8 million, you would hardly expect anything more. Don’t be fooled by the budget price, the Accent is a highly competent subcompact in any of the three trims available.
