When you think of a compact car that easily turns the odometer to the tune of 200,000 or even a million miles, which car comes to mind? A Honda Civic? A Toyota Corolla? Well, you wouldn’t be wrong, but you might also be surprised that a Hyundai Elantra could do those miles as well.

In that case, what mileage can the average Hyundai Elantra reach before it develops issues?

Tokunbo Used Hyundai Elantra Last Longer than You’ll Imagine

The Hyundai Elantra has been in the market for 30 years and was redesigned for the 2021 model year. However, if you’re on the hunt for an inexpensive personal car, then you’ll find that a Tokunbo Hyundai Elantra is a far cheaper option than its Japanese competitors. And while you might be reluctant to pick an older model Elantra, you can rest assured that it can last for many years and many more miles.

On Car Complaints, there are not many filed complaints about the first few generations of the Hyundai Elantra. In fact, the site lists the 2013 model year as the worst one to get as many owners of that particular year complained about a “ticking noise” coming from the engine, which was typically remedied by an engine replacement.  If anything, avoid that model year.

But there are success stories as well. Most notably, one 2013 Elantra owner drove her car an average of 200,000 miles per year for five years, effectively racking up 1,000,000 miles on the clock. It was such an amazing feat that Hyundai made a special badge for her car and later on, ended up giving her a brand-new 2019 Elantra for her efforts.

Also, a well-known YouTuber purchased a 2012 Elantra with 165,000 miles on the odometer and he couldn’t help but gush about what great shape it was in given the mileage. Critics rate the Hyundai Elantra as a four out of five stars when it comes to overall reliability and there are many positive owner testimonials noting how great the car is.

New 2021 Hyundai Elantra Will Last Even Longer

If you happen to be in the market for a new car, then the 2021 Hyundai Elantra would serve you well. While it still competes with reliability champions like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, the all-new Elantra holds its own with new styling, new tech-savvy features, and a tried-and-true 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine. Although, a new hybrid powertrain is also available.

Critics gave the 2021 Elantra a “predicted reliability” score of three out of five, which is pretty good, but what’s even better is the 87 out of 100 scores that JD Power gave it for reliability and quality.
