An anonymous person who didn’t want to be named has disclosed to PREMIUM TIMES that the decision was made at the last meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC), which Mr Ishaku led.

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has only 18 days left in office, but he has already given N2 billion to buy expensive cars for himself, his deputy, and their wives.

“At our last SEC meeting, Governor Darius Ishaku asked the council to approve a memo he had written about buying cars for himself, his deputy, and their wives. It was quickly and unanimously approved,” a source said.

The source said that at the meeting, it was said that Mr Darius and his deputy have been using old cars that were left to them by their leaders since they took office in 2015 and that they deserve new cars as they prepare to leave office.

Our source told us that the paper the governor showed shows that the governor and his wife will get cars worth more than N1.3 billion, while his deputy and his wife will get cars worth N750 million.

According to our source, the governor would get two Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, two Toyota Hilux guard vehicles, and a utility vehicle. His wife, on the other hand, would get a Land Cruiser SUV and an escort vehicle.

In the same way, Haruna Manu, who is the deputy governor, will get two smaller versions of the Land Cruiser SUV and one security vehicle. His wife will get one SUV and one utility car.

Lois Emmanuel, the state’s Commissioner for Information, did not say yes or no when she was asked about the decision.

She just told him, “I’m not there.” I travelled out. “I don’t know, but I’ll find out,” she said as she cut the call short.

But a few hours later, she was seen in Jalingo, the state capital, where the governor was opening a building project.
