Yesterday The Federal Government on Wednesday announced a 50 per cent reduction in transportation costs along 28 interstate routes during the Yuletide season.

Mr Dele Alake, who chairs the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Presidential Intervention, announced that there will be a fare subsidy for luxury buses. This was disclosed when he briefed State House correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The subsidy will be implemented by the National Union of Road Transport Workers, with a 50% reduction in fares. Alake explained that the reduction was agreed upon with the companies that operate luxury buses. The subsidy is set to start on Thursday 21st of December 2023.

He added that President Bola Tinubu had directed that commuters on all train services would get free rides from Thursday (today) to January 4, 2024.
