Laikipia BJ-50 was invented by Samwel Njogu, a Kenyan man from Laikipia country resident. He turned into a nationwide sensation due to his invention. The Kenyan government approved the mass invention of the car. 

In an interview, Samwel said, “I still can’t believe it, my dream to see my car, the BJ50 on the road has come true. I have already received number plates for the completed units.” The vehicle is now being used in Kenya as one of their public means of transportation.

Bailey Edwards, which is now known as Bailey Cars, is a South African manufacturer that builds replicas of classic race cars like the Porsche 917, the Ford GT40, the Lola T70, and the Ferrari P4. The company expanded towards North America, meaning they now have African buyers. If you’ve ever wanted to race with a car, Bailey cars offer you a fraction of the cost of driving the real thing.

The Laraki Epitome is a product of a Moroccan company. The company was founded in Morocco by Mohamed Laraki, a businessman and car designer, in 1999. The company first started with producing Yacht and later moved to luxury supercars. The Laraki Fulgura was the first supercar in 2002. 

In 2013, they launched the Laraki Epitome. With a V8 engine, the supercar pumps 1,200 horsepower, and the price was tagged at $2 million when it launched. The top speed of the car is estimated at 175 mph.

This car was manufactured in La Marsa, Tunisia. The company was founded in 2006. They are known for building affordable, reliable, and powerful 4x4s. According to a 2014 report, the company sells over 600 cars annually in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The company’s plan for the Wallyscar is to make it more sporty, colourful, off-road capable, and environmentally friendly.

KMC is a motor company in Uganda behind the Kira car. The brand was launched in 2014 by the engineering students of the University of Makerere who participated in the Vehicle Design Summit launched by MIT students in 2006. 

The company has backing from the Uganda government. Cars in the Kira line are Kayyoola Sola Bus, Kiira EV Smack, and Kiira EV POC, which come with a battery capacity of 40AH and 207V. The car is a 2-seater car powered by 26 Horse Power.

This car is among the oldest cars made in Africa. It is made by a South African automotive company that began in 1982 by John Watson. It is sold in different parts of the world, including Europe, the United States, Japan, and many more. The brand is known for quality classic reproductions, including SS3 Street Series and the CS3 Clubman Series 3.

This brand was launched in 1999 by the then Libya leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. He invented this rocket car to be the safest car in Africa and the world. It’s a five-seater saloon car with an inbuilt electronic defence system and a collapsible bumper that protects passengers in head-on collisions. The interior is equally designed with airbags to make it extremely safe.

The car is 17 feet long, over six feet wide, and comes with a 3-litre V6 gasoline engine. It also can run hundreds of miles on a flat tire. And it can easily cut off the fuel supply in case of fire. The prototype of this car was priced at 2 million euros.

This low-cost vehicle was released a few years back. The car costs about $10,000 and was manufactured for Africa’s mass market. The cars are designed to suit Africa’s common road terrain and transport usage. The Kenyan company took up a lot when they decided to mass produce low-cost vehicles for Africa’s off-road and tough terrain plans. 

Conclusion

While we don’t sing their praises daily, many African car manufacturers exist. The above-listed cars are among the cars mass-produced in Africa and owned by Africans.
