  • The Toyota Tundra has always been the go-to car for many Nigerians looking for luxury trucks and pickups.
  • Almost every wealthy Nigerian has their version of a pickup truck, either the Toyota Tundra or any other pickup truck from Toyota like the Hilux.
  • With the 2024 Tundra already available in the Nigerian car market, let’s look at what could be its difference from the 2023 model.

The Toyota Tundra is one of the popularly known Toyota trucks in Nigeria, and this Toyota truck has always remained available in dealerships across the country. After the Hilux, the Tundra is one truck driven mostly by security agencies in Nigeria.

While Toyota designed the Tundra for 2023, the brand has also launched the 2024 model of this pickup truck, and in this article, we’ll be looking at the 2023 and 2024 Tundra to know where they differ.

Overview of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

After fourteen years of having the same design, Toyota decided to upgrade the designs of the Tundra in 2022. Following this record, we expect that the 2023 model will look much like the 2022 model. With the new upgrade, the Tundra still looks like a domestic truck.

Since the Toyota Tundra was only redesigned for the 2022 model, Toyota kept that same design for the 2023 model and the 2024 model. Possibly, this design will remain till the end of this decade; we don’t expect any new design any time soon.

But, now, with the Tundra SR5 trims, the SX appearance package adds black and dark grey design elements to the Tundra’s exterior and interior trim. The SX package will include dark grey 18-inch wheels, black door handles, body trim, rear bumper middle section, and darkens the rear 4×4 badge.

There’s also some change to the interior accents to black, and the Tundra door badges are removed. The SX package can be added to white, silver, grey, or black exterior paint options.

Do the 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra Share The Same Engine and Performance Abilities?

Yes. The 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra are powered exclusively by a twin-turbocharged V-6, the base version of the engine comes with either 348 or 379 horsepower, depending upon the model, while the more powerful hybridized variant produces 437 horsepower with 583 pound-feet of torque. All the trim levels of the 2023 Tundra use a 10-speed automatic transmission with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

The base SR trim engine produces 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. Otherwise, it makes 389 horses and 479 pound-feet. The 2023 Tundra now uses a more refined coil-spring rear suspension that improves its ride and handling characteristics.

Does the 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra Share The Same Level of Fuel Economy?

Yes, they both do. The 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra use a nonhybrid powertrain, and the two-wheel drive Tundra is rated for up to 20 mpg city and 24 mpg highway; four-wheel drive reduces those figures by 1 mpg each.  Both Tundra trucks are a bit fuel efficient even though it’s not as many other trucks in their category.

Do the 2023 and 2024 Toyota Tundra Have the Same Level of Interior Quality?

Not entirely though. Some adjustments have been made to the interior quality of the 2024 Toyota Tundra, which we will highlight below. However, what remains the same is that inside both Tundras, you’ll find a chunky dashboard dotted with prominent air vents and a thick, smooth centre section connecting the door panels. The materials used on the centre console, dash, and doors are much nicer than what was used in the previous generation.

The quality of the interior increases depending on the trim you’re going for. With the top-of-the-line 1794 Edition sporting attractive wood accents. All models have a versatile centre console with lots of cubic storage and a huge centre bin.

A pair of analogue gauges and a small driver-information display is the standard instrument panel; the high trim levels have a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

The Tundra comes in two body styles with three different cargo bed lengths. The extended cab is available with either a 6.5 or 8.1-foot bed. The crew cab is offered with either a 5.5 or 6.5-foot bed.

Standard in both Tundra trucks is an 8.0-inch touchscreen display. But, it can be upgraded with a horizontally oriented 14.0-inch touchscreen that trumps what’s offered in all other trucks.

Features in the vehicle include a useful volume knob, Apple CarPlay, and Andriod Auto Integration. There’s no tuning knob, and the steering wheel controls have limited functionality. There’s also the availability of a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. The Tundra is stocked with a full complement of driver-assistance technology, including automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and many more.

The key safety features include;

  • Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

2023 Toyota Tundra Vs. 2024 Toyota Tundra: What’s the Main Difference?

For the 2024 model, Tundra has a few cosmetic and package updates. For instance, the TRD Off-Road package is now available on the Platinum Grade and includes a black grille with colour-keyed surround, black mirror caps, window surrounds, over fenders and badging, and body colour-and-black door handles.

The Nightshade package is now available in the Limited Grade, and the full-size, and 12.3-inch digital instrument panel is now standard on Limited. These are some of the major adjustments Toyota has made to the 2024 Tundra. Every other thing in this vehicle remains the same as the 2023 model.
