Annie grew up living with her parents in Ibadan, with a father who worked at Mobil and a mother who was a housewife. However, her parents got a divorce when Annie was 10 years old, and the children remained with the mom, who then started working at Mobil as a cook.
Speaking about her parent’s divorce, the actress revealed:
“My mother bred us from childhood to adulthood because of the divorce. I was almost a tomboy growing up with my brothers. It’s heartbreaking when you live with your parents happily, and suddenly, they part ways. Sincerely, we were terribly affected emotionally. It was especially tough when it was only our mother that was attending functions in school and taking care of our needs. It was emotionally sapping, and my brothers have their own fair share of memories. It affected me so much while in secondary school because I was always sad going home after school hours to see my mother living without my father. But Mum tried her best to make life meaningful for us: she is my hero. And I appreciate God for being there for us.”
After the divorce, her family first moved to Jakande Estate and later to Thomas Estate in Lekki, Lagos. At the age of 15, Annie lost one of her brothers to tuberculosis.
To help her mother with keeping the family running, Annie started working from secondary school, and before she got into the University, she was already used to working as a salesperson in a shop and at two other spots.
She continued working even while studying at Lagos State University, where she gained a degree in Computer Science. Later on, she got into the University of Lagos, where she graduated with another degree in Theatre Arts.
Annie met her husband, 2face Idibia, in 1999, and in 2002 the couple started dating. They continued an on-and-off relationship until they later got married in 2013. Before their marriage, they had their first child together, Isabella Idibia (2008), and after their marriage in 2014, they had their second child together, Olivia Idibia. Annie is also stepmother to 2face other children namely: Zion, Nino, Ehi, Justin, and Innocent. These are children that 2face had with three other women before he proposed to Annie.
