  • The Toyota Camry has remained a favourite midsize sedan for many Nigerian car buyers.
  • The Camry is a reliable vehicle. However, it has a rival that comes very close.
  • The Honda Accord is the Camry’s biggest rival vehicle to date.

While the Camry and the Honda are in the same category, the Camry only scored a little bit higher than the Honda Accord. There are still many other areas where the Accord comes higher than the Camry. However, the Camry is still a much better vehicle than the Accord, and we will share why in this article.

Overview of the 2021 Toyota Camry

Why the 2021 Toyota Camry is Still a Better Car than the 2021 Honda Accord

The 2021 Toyota Camry comes with more of a new frontend styling, a different touchscreen infotainment setup, and a few changes to its trim levels and standard and optional equipment.

The LE trim is now the base model, meaning the L previously the cheapest Camry—is no more. The 2021 Camry hybrid is available in the sporty-ish XSE trim. And the more legitimately sporty Camry TRD gets newly standard equipment including blind-spot monitoring and heated mirrors.

Outside, several small updates to the Camry’s front fascia better separate LE and XLE models from sportier-looking SE and XSE trims. The L trim is dead, which makes the LE is now the least expensive Toyota Camry sedan car you can buy. It celebrates this feat with a new set of 17-inch wheels. Likewise, the XLE gets a new 18-inch wheel design. Both trims add a more defined chin to the bottom of the front bumper. Meanwhile, SE and XSE models get small adjustments to the front bumper and feature a new honeycomb grill design.

All 2021 Camrys come standard with an enhanced set of driver-assistance features, which Toyota is calling Safety Sense 2.5. It includes upgrades to systems such as the pedestrian-detection and adaptive cruise control functions. All-wheel drive was introduced as an option for the 2020 model and continues for 2021.

Overview of the 2021 Honda Accord

Honda has given the Accord and Accord Hybrid models a light styling refresh for 2021 that includes a tweaked grille design, new optional LED headlamps, new alloy wheel designs, and a new colour: Sonic Gray Pearl. The cabin gains the previously optional 8.0-inch infotainment display as standard equipment across the range.

It now also boasts standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which offer a wireless connection on EX-L and Touring trims. Honda has relocated the Accord’s USB ports for easier access and has also introduced a Sport SE trim which combines the now-defunct EX trim’s equipment with the Sport trim’s styling.

The lineup starts with a 192-hp turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder, but our favourite is the 252-hp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that sits atop the engine pyramid and comes with a 10-speed automatic that shifts with an almost seamless nature.

Why the 2021 Toyota Camry Will Still Better than the Honda Accord 2021

Based on the scores provided by reviews, the 2021 Toyota Camry scored 88 out of 100. Also, the price was very competitive. Out of the other midsize cars on the list, the Camry had a higher predicted reliability and owner satisfaction than the others. The predicted owner satisfaction is calculated by a few categories: driving experience, comfort, and value.

With a 77, 69, and 57, this Toyota car scored fairly well. The combined overall mileage came in at 32 miles per gallon.  The Camry is offered in four engine types. A 2.5-litre 4 with 206 hp and a 2.5L 4 hybrid with 208 hp. The other options are a 2.5L 4 with 203 hp and a 3.5L V6 with 301 hp. It comes with an eight-speed automatic or CVT.

On the other hand, the 2021 Honda Accord came in at 84 out of 100. Both cars scored a three out of five in predicted reliability and four out of five for predicted owner satisfaction and scored an 89 on-road test.

Honda came in high for the owner satisfaction categories. 81 for the driving experience, 70 for comfort, and 59 for value. The Honda’s combined overall mileage was 31. The Accord comes in three engine types. A 1.5L 4 turbo with 192 hp, a 2L 4 hybrid with 212 hp, and a 2L 4 turbo with 252 hp.

Conclusion

Based on these five factors, the Camry was ahead in most of the categories. The Accord did beat it in the owner satisfaction sub-categories. That means no matter which car you land on–Honda or Camry; you have a solid car.
