The Golf GTI is a first-generation model that came on board in 1975 and was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it received a great reception from the public as it went up for sales in 1979. One of the most impressive things about the Golf GTI at the time is its powerful 81kW 1.6-litre (later on a 1.8-litre) fuel-injected motor engine that it produces rockets to 100km/h in nine seconds acceleration and hits a top speed of over 180km/h. The GTI no doubt has carved up a place for itself in history. Looking back at the subsequent models that followed it, you can get to call it the forerunner.
Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V
Starting price: ₦750k – ₦26 million
Golf GTI 16V is Volkswagen’s second-generation model in the Golf line that got a barrage of criticism and jabs due to the weight as a result of the increased wheelbase, exterior interior and dimensions, even though it retained the Golf GTI look and overall style. To make up for this criticism Volkswagen released the Mk2 GTI which featured a 1.8-litre 8-valve fuel-injected engine, with a 16-valve version capable of more than 220 km/h (137 mph) introduced in 1986 that outperformed the previous standard 8-valve.
Volkswagen Golf Rallye G60

The Golf Rallye G60 is manufactured for the third generation in the Golf line-up with a new engine that includes the first turbocharged direct injection (TD) for a diesel engine in a Golf that is powered by a narrow-angle 2.8-litre VR6 engine.
Volkswagen Golf G60 Limited
Starting price: ₦850k – ₦25 million
The Golf G60 Limited belong to the fourth
generation of the Volkswagen Golf line-up and it launched with a new high-performance model G-Lader 1.8-litre 16-valve motor that produced 154kW and 252Nm and also includes an upgraded 3.2-litre VR6-engined that is latched on a four-wheel-drive Golf “R32” introduced in 2002.
Volkswagen Golf VR6
Starting price: ₦550k – ₦20 million
If you are one of those who criticized previous Golf generations to be big, slow and worst still, overweight; then believe that you may not have known what hit you when the Golf VR6 launched. Volkswagen simply went back to the drawing board and didn’t forget to revisit the Golf blueprint by adjusting it and the Golf VR6 was the outcome. In 2006 and 2007 the Golf VR6 base model was launched in North America with a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine, that produced 112 kW (150 hp; 152 PS) but was upped to 127 kW (170 hp; 173 PS) in the subsequent models that followed.
Volkswagen Golf R32
Starting price: ₦900k – ₦22 million
The Golf R32 launched with both 5- and 6-speed manual transmission, and 6- or 7-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG)(with Dual Clutch) transmission options. It came a 130 kW (174 hp; 177 PS), 2.5-litre inline 5-cylinder with 240 N·m (177 lb·ft) of torque and a 2.0-litre, and you can bet your last wad that its 100 kW (134 hp; 136 PS) turbocharged inline 4-cylinder clean diesel engine that generates 320 N·m (236 lb·ft) of torque is certified supa dupa top road player.
Volkswagen Golf R

The powerful Golf R was launched in 2010 with combined all-wheel-drive traction and a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged EA113 motor that was used in the Golf GTI Mk5.
