With the year ending, Consumer Reports surveyed more than 300,000 vehicle owners to learn about the cars they have and how reliable they are. It happens to be that Toyota cars made the top list.
Last year, the Toyota brand came in second place, but it has taken over from its sister brand, Lexus, at the Consumer Report’s reliability ranking list.
The Lexus and Toyota tied with a rounded-up predicted reliability score of 72, but Toyota was a few decimals higher than the Lexus. Other vehicles that followed behind the Lexus and Toyota rating are BMW, with a 65% rating; Mazda, with a 65% rating; and Honda, which got a 62% rating.

Fox News points out that according to information from Consumer Report, reliability is one of the most important criteria when buying a car.
“Our data can help people chase a satisfying car that can go the distance and avoid headaches at the repair shop, which is more important than ever with high prices, low inventory, and more vehicle choices,” said Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports.
Tesla, Chevrolet, GMC, Volkswagen, Jeep, and Mercedes-Benz ranked low on the reliability rating.
Hybrid cars led the way among model types ahead of sports cars, hybrid SUVs, midsize/large cars, and compact pickups, while full-size pickups were at the bottom of the list below plug-in hybrid/electric vehicles.
According to the survey, the Toyota Corolla Hybris was the most reliable car model with a score of 93%, the Lexus GX scored 91%, and the Mazda MX-5 scored 85%.
