Owning a BMW, whether new or used, has likely crossed the minds of most people because of how beautiful BMW cars look. But, beauty is not the main thing to consider when purchasing a vehicle, reliability is. Everyone wants a vehicle that will serve them properly, and not spoil every few days.

In fact, many consider BMW cars as overrated due to their high prices and little reliability rating. In this article, we share with you all the major reasons why BMW cars are considered overrated.

BMW Vehicles are Not Reliable

BMW cars have their fair share of issues like other vehicles. But, that of the BMW is a lot. If you look at Carcomplaints.com, a site where owners of cars can post their related issues with them for the good of would-be buyers, there are many complaints about various BMW models.

However, a lot of them are for the older generations, But, it’s a good indication that you should probably avoid a lot of the 3 Series, X3, and X5 models from the past.

There are many complaints concerning failed water pumps, oil leaks, and even transmission malfunctions for all those model lines, they are issues that are expensive to fix. In fact, even an oil change on a BMW costs a lot of money and talks more about replacing car parts. Possibly, even more, depending on which model you have.

Consumer Reports reveals low marks for the 3 Series model, as well as seven listed, recalls. Based on their previous data, Consumer Reports rated the 2020 3 Series at a 1 out of 5 on the “predicted reliability” scale, citing the fuel and electrical systems as major pain points. In case you’re wondering, the current X5 scored higher overall, but they still gave it a 1 out of 5 for reliability.

BMW Models Rides are Stiffer Than Other Competitors

Of all German vehicles, the Mercedes-Benz and Audi are considered the more comfortable than the BMW. Why? Because in order to be the “Ultimate Driving Machine,” a car has to be made to ride stiff, or “sporty.” The ride quality of Mercedes and Audi vehicles is considered more interesting and enjoyable than BMW vehicles.

Are BMW Vehicles Truly Overrated?

Given the high cost of entry and ultimate reliability issues of almost any BMW model, it’s obvious that ownership of a BMW is mostly overrated. BMW is a wonderful car manufacturer that produces high-quality vehicles, however, owning one could come at a high price and maintenance cost that the average Nigerian cannot afford.

Conclusion

Aside from the main issues BMW cars are known to have, the vehicle is not a great option vehicle for Nigerians as the BMW has its wiring underneath the vehicle, which makes it the wrong car to navigate bad Nigerian roads.
