  1. The Name “Tundra” Came After Ford Sued Toyota For Trademark Infringement

Between 1992 to 1998, Toyota’s full-size pickup truck was named T100. When the automaker started redesigning the vehicle, they planned to name it T150.

Ford Motors heard this and sued Toyota over trademark infringement. This is because Ford had trademarked the name T150 for their vehicles. Toyota had to back off and change the name of the redesigned full-size truck to Tundra. That’s how the name came to be. 

  1. Toyota Tundra Was World’s Fastest Full-Size Truck For 13 Years

For 13 years, the Toyota Tundra held the title of the world’s fastest truck. This started after Toyota upgraded the Tundra’s engine with a 5.7-litre V8 in 2007. With this engine, the Toyota Tundra TRD, which then got a TRD Supercharged engine, became faster than the 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10. The truck held on to the title until it was overthrown by another supercharged truck: the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.

  1. Toyota Is Bringing Futuristic Technology To The Tundra Pickup Truck

The third generation of the Tundra started with the 2022 model, and it was the first full-size pickup truck that took away its V8 engine option. Instead of the old V8 engine, the Tundra is now powered by some version of a turbocharged 3.4-litre V6. Currently, the highest trim engine option is the i-FORCE MAX-a fully hybrid powertrain.
