News that surfaced online reports that the bus conveying stranded Nigerians from Sudan reportedly caught fire.
The bus was said to be conveying Nigerians in Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan, caught fire while en route on Monday, May 1. Reports note that 26 buses conveying the stranded Nigerians left Al Razi around 12 am on Monday for Port Sudan.
The Chairman of Nigerian’s Elders’ Forum in Sudan, Hashim Na’Allah states: “One of the buses conveying some 50 Nigerian students from Sudan with a tag number (Katsina 1) heading to Port Sudan as part of the second batch of FGN evacuation got damaged due to excessive heat from one of the vehicle’s tyres.”

The Chairman, Dr Hashim Na’Allah, is one of the bus’s passengers, which contained 50 students (49 males, one female).
The incident is said to have happened around 2:30 am Sudan time. The driver stopped the bus near an RSF checkpoint just before the tire exploded, causing a fire to start.
40 out of the 50 passengers are said to have been later distributed to the other buses evacuating the students, while the remaining passengers spent the night where the incident happened alongside the driver at the RSF checkpoint.
