In a recent social media reveal, Nigerian auto influencer Ola of Lagos announced the arrival of the all-new 2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ at Polanco Exotic Cars, a top luxury car dealership in Lagos. According to Ola, this is currently the first and only G580 EQ in Nigeria, and it’s already turning heads for all the right reasons.

With a staggering price tag of ₦650 million, the G580 EQ ushers in a new chapter for electric luxury vehicles in the country. For many Nigerians, the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon has always represented status, wealth, and rugged durability. But the G580 EQ, Mercedes’ first fully electric version of the G-Class, is rewriting that narrative with a futuristic twist.
According to Ola, the most noticeable differences between this model and previous versions like the G550 and G63 AMG start with the exterior styling. The grille has been redesigned, and the body now includes blue EQ accents that symbolise its electric drivetrain. There’s also visible underbody protection that shields the battery—yet another cue that this is no ordinary G-Wagon.
“When you pop the hood, there’s no engine. That’s how you know it’s fully electric,” Ola explained. Mercedes has maintained the rugged silhouette but overhauled what’s beneath with next-gen electric technology.
Ola also broke down one of the G580 EQ’s most talked-about features: the G-Turn. To perform the 360-degree rotation, also known as the G360, Ola detailed the step-by-step process: activate Rock Mode, tap the low-range button, put the vehicle in Neutral, press and hold the G-Turn button, then accelerate while keeping the steering wheel straight.

The 580 horsepower output makes it one of the most powerful electric SUVs in its class. And even though it’s a modern EV, Ola noted that Mercedes preserved the classic G-Class interior layout, including its iconic dashboard and controls, to ensure loyal G-Wagon lovers still feel at home.
For now, this G580 EQ stands as a rare spectacle on Nigerian roads, but it signals what’s to come. As Ola puts it, this isn’t just another car—it’s the future of high-end mobility in Nigeria. With more EV infrastructure and high-profile endorsements like this, electric vehicles may soon become part of the luxury norm.
