A Vietnamese man has recreated the one-off Mercedes Vision AVTR, and he did that using actual wood.

The man is identified as Dao Truong Van, he built the concept car using discarded scrap metal and wood he found near his small Vietnamese village.

As though that’s not mindblowing already, he built it from scratch within 100 days.

In the video, Mr. Dao, the designer, shows the building process from start to finish.

He started with the car’s frame, which used scrap metal and was painted black. He moves on to make a rough body using timber. Once the body’s been laid, he uses a chainsaw to perfect the shape.

At this point, the homemade version of the Mercedes Vision AVTR starts to take shape.

Later, Mr. Dao cuts 33 holes into the rear hood to resemble the AVTR ‘bionic flaps.’

These AVTR bionic flaps are unlike anything ever seen before—they look like little scales and move with the car’s direction.

When you brake, they go red and change to blue as you start to drive.

However, Mr. Dao’s flaps might not move with the car, he’s created them to be 3D, meaning they pop out and reveal coloured lighting beneath. He then vanishes the wood and adds a grille with flashing LED lights.

Even the car’s wheels are fitted with colour-changing LED lights to reflect the crazy wheels on the AVTR.

The interior of the wood version of the Mercedes Vision AVTR is made entirely out of wood, including the seats and flooring.

The real car is controlled with a joystick in the centre console. The wood version, however, has a steering wheel.

After fitting the batteries and electrical wiring, Mr. Dao added the Mercedes badge, and the car was ready for a spin.

Everything he used in making the car is all recycled and discarded materials, just like the real Vision AVTR which was created using old clothing flags and recycled plastic bottles.
