From Ghost to Phantom to Wraith, and the Spectre, Rolls-Royce has always been known for giving its cars the names of supernatural things. While many car enthusiasts have always wondered why, the car manufacturer finally revealed the reasoning behind these spooky names given to their cars.
The spooky naming of Rolls-Royce cars started with the Rolls-Royce Ghost that came out in 1907. The name was given to the vehicle by the press because of how quiet the car was compared to most cars that were being built at the time, and the name quickly stuck.
Rolls-Royce finally decided to own the nickname that’s been given to their car, and in 1925, the brand produced the latest model of the Silver Ghost and named it “New Phantom.” The vehicle features a 7.7-liter inline-six engine. After that, the next vehicle became the Phantom II which came with an improved chassis and an even more powerful engine, and then the current generation that is the Phantom VIII, which is now one of the most coveted luxury cars of all time.

Another Rolls-Royce vehicle that bears a spooky name is the all-electric Rolls-Royce car, the Spectre which is described as “spirit electrified.” The vehicle is currently seen as the most luxurious EV in the world, and the Spectre comes with over 5000 tiny lights embedded in the doors and ceiling to look like stars.
Speaking on the spooky names Rolls-Royce gives its cars, the CEO, Martin Fritsches says: “Rolls-Royce motor cars named after spirits or ethereal entities evoke a sense of mystique. They are instantly recognizable not just by their design but also by their names.”
