Fastest Cars The World Has Ever Known

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr

A car is sometimes seen as a machine that grants mobility from one place to another, but some others, would want something a bit more like a great interior, good safety features, and most importantly great speed. There has always been competition among car manufacturers to make the fastest car in the world. In 1987, the automotive world was left in awe when the Ferrari F40 became the first production car to break the 200 mph barrier. Since then we have seen some of the fastest cars come and go.

There are many ways to judge how fast a car is. One of them is Acceleration; being able to jump from 0 to 60 mph quickly is probably the most realistic performance criterion. A better ultimate ranking factor is its top speed, it’s the most unrealistic, no-holds-barred, balls-to-the-wall stat a supercar can have.

Even though we’ll probably never be able to actually achieve these speeds, top speed is the one that deserves the most bragging rights. It takes huge amounts of engineering genius to produce hunks of metal (and carbon fibre) that can safely propel themselves this quickly down a strip of pavement without falling apart.

Let’s take a look at some of the fastest cars the world has ever known;

The Venom GT is a hypercar produced by an American tuning company Hennessey. The Hennessey Venom GT can reach a speed of 260 mph, and go from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. These cars can fly, but are they worth the wait? Only ten Venom GTs see production every year, so you’ll have to sign up soon to lock down your next supercar.

November 4, 2017, the Nevada Department of Transportation closed an 11-mile stretch of road just outside Las Vegas. Koenigsegg turned up with a customer-owned Agera RS and Koenigsegg factory driver Niklas Lilja put down two high-speed runs (in opposing directions). The average pace (including one run at 285 mph) was recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records.

There were only 25 examples of the Agera RS produced, but 11 lucky owners are able to (theoretically) hit this top speed due to checking the “1MW” special package when ordering theirs, which increases the ponies to 1,341.

Bugatti is a brand synonymous with speed and style (and price). The French supercar company slapped bigger turbos and intercoolers on their previous world-record-holding Veyron to produce a seriously impressive 1,200 horsepower. The Veyron SS still houses the same 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine, but now produces 200 more horsepower. To handle the extra speed and power, Bugatti also had to revise the chassis and suspension. Only 30 Veyron Super Sport models were produced.

SSC Ultimate Aero is manufactured in the United States and was built to compete directly with the heavily dominated European supercar market. It had a brief stint at the top between the years 2007-2010 making its way into the Guinness Book of World Records. The car can go up to 256 mph.
