Osun State government put smiles to the faces of some of its workers during an inter-religious prayer to welcome the new year.

The Osun State workers welcomed the state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, into office after the yuletide break with solidarity songs and funfair to demonstrate their gratitude for his passion and love for the state workforce.

They acknowledged the contributions of the governor to the growth and development of the civil service in the state as manifested in the priority given to their welfare and well-being since the governor came into office.

This happened few minutes before Oyetola presented star prizes, facilitated by the state government, to outstanding workers for their commitment and dedication to duty, unflinching support, cooperation and understanding which has been magnanimous.

Apart from giving out prizes, the government gave out cars to their workers, saying they are the brains behind its success story.

A particular woman, a teacher, who goes by the name Abiala Grace Aduke, was so joyful and overwhelmed as she received her own car gift.

The workers, led by the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jacob Adekomi, and the Head of Service, Dr. Festus Olowogboyega Oyebade, trekked with the governor from the gate to his Office parking lot, the venue of the yearly inter-religious prayer session organised to mark the first work day and herald the new year.

The state chairman of the NLC, Adekomi, spoke at the prayer session and attributed the governor’s awesome welcome to his continued support for the workers since taking office.

According to him, he described Oyetola as the best helmsman and astute manager of human and material resources, the gains made by the state workforce under his watch are unquantifiable.

His speech; “First and foremost, we give God glory for sparing our lives up to this point, because who are we if not for God? We are very happy today as workers because the governor has been very sympathetic to our plight. He’s been paying attention to protests and demands.

As you can see, another innovation has come our way today in the form of the governor donating cars to some employees, the first of its kind in the state’s history since its inception.

In addition, the governor has approved worker car refurbishment loans. This is something we’ve been agitating for a long time. He has given the civil service a makeover, and he has also approved our 10,000 hectares of land for the construction of over 180 housing units for state workers, to name a few achievements.”

The jubilant workers were seen with pro-government banners having different inscriptions such as: ‘Osun Workers are saying Thank You’; ‘We are solidly behind you and your administration’; ‘Thank You for being there for us’, among others.
