Mercedes is Putting the Brakes on Its Electric Vehicle Plans in the United States

With concern from multiple manufacturers about the demand for EVs and the poor start to charging networks, the slowdown of electrification plans is a new trend. After Porsche, Mercedes now allegedly will be slowing down their EV plans in North America due to the poor economy, high costs of EVs, and poor charging infrastructure. Mercedes also announced they will use the NACS (North American charging standard) in the US, the first German manufacturer announcing to do so and joining GM, Ford, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar and likely many other brands to come.

Mercedes will have a full EV lineup in “markets that will allow,” after all. At least in Canada, Mercedes likely will be realigning their focus on hybrid and gas vehicles along with more affordable options. This is the second time MB has “realigned” their North American EV plans after the disaster of the EQC.

The electric SUV was supposed to come to the continent back in 2020, though due to a poor range of under 250 miles and the global pandemic, plans were scrapped as the car also sold poorly in Europe.

Talking to a sales guy at Mercedes who said potential buyers are concerned about resale value. So most people are leasing them instead. At Subaru, Solterra buyers are returning their cars. Not a great look for EVs right now

@lee.carrter on Instagram Mercedes has like 80 models in their lineup At this time I feel like they could’ve just invested a whole lineup of evs, instead of they having the ev version of they gas vehicles. It just don’t make sense for example the B-class & then the EQB class😭.. it’s all over the place!
