The Toyota car brand’s Toyota Prius has been a high-ranking vehicle for hybrid sedans. Since this Toyota model was introduced in 2003, it has consistently made a list as one of the top fuel-efficient vehicles to buy in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Many love the Toyota Prius because it’s affordable and fuel efficient.

This makes the Toyota Prius one of the best cars for low-income earners trying to manage finances while getting a good deal for fuel-efficient cars. Thankfully, the Tokunbo used versions of the Toyota Prius are available in the Nigerian car market. Below are the four model years of the Prius you can buy for less than 10 million Naira today.

2009 Toyota Prius – ₦2.5 Million

The 2009 Toyota Prius is the cheapest on the list and belongs to the second generation of the Prius. It was the last model before it was redesigned for the 2010 model year.  The price of the Tokunbo version of this vehicle is between ₦5 Million to ₦5.5 Million. The fuel economy is lower than in 2010, 2011, and 2012. It has only 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway.

It is also powered by a weaker 1.5L engine that, combined with the hybrid battery, only produces 76 hp and 82 lb-ft of torque. So, it’s slower, less efficient, and not as well equipped as the generation that followed, but it’s still a great used fuel-efficient vehicle to buy.

2010 Toyota Prius – ₦3 Million

The 2010 Toyota Prius belongs to the third generation of the Prius. It is also the first model from this generation, and as of then, it was considered the most attractive Prius model. While it may have now lost that title for many, it still looks beautiful with great features.

The 2010 Prius has 51 city mpg and 48 highway mpg. This Prius generation also comes with exceptional rear seat dimensions and cargo capacity, making it an excellent choice for a small family. Despite being 13 years old, the average price of the 2010 Toyota Prius is between ₦3 Million to ₦3.5 Million in Nigeria. Note, however, that the 2010 model year represents the worst year of the Prius, according to CarComplaints. Being the first model year of a new generation, this isn’t that surprising. Despite this, the 2010 Prius is still a safe bet on the used market.

2011 Toyota Prius – ₦3.8 Million

In reliability, car experts note that the 2011 Toyota Prius is just below that of the 2010 model year, with a score of 9.1. Also, the 2011 model of the Prius has lesser complaints compared to the 2010 first model of the third generation.

Currently, the Tokunbo used 2011 models sell between ₦3.8 Million to ₦4 Million.  The 2011 model has a similar feature to the 2011 model, meaning they share similar tech features. Nothing extraordinary about the 2011 Prius. Still, the 2011 Prius has features like leather heated seats, Bluetooth, an upgraded sound system, and cruise control that are included in the higher trims.

2012 Toyota Prius – ₦5 Million

The 2012 Toyota Prius was one of the best-selling years of the Prius. It came with a facelift. Although the powertrain remained the same, some excellent features were added to the 2012 Toyota Prius model.

One of the biggest addition was the standard 6.1” touchscreen infotainment system. Beyond that, higher trim models are equipped with adaptive cruise control, a USB port, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

In some of the higher trims, you can also get a moonroof with a solar-powered air conditioning system that regulates the cabin temperature when the car is off. Currently, the price of the 2012 Toyota Prius is between ₦5 Million.

Conclusion

If you are looking to buy used models of the Toyota Prius, these four models are among the cheapest you’ll find in the Nigerian market today.
