Mini Coopers are not just small cars as people think but it’s considered one of the most reliable small cars ever made. Mini is a British automotive brand founded in Oxford in 1969, owned by German Multinational automotive company BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in most country.

The entry-level Mini Cooper C has a 154bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine – which is also our pick of the range. It’s a feisty, strong unit, more so than the engine found in the Audi A1 35 TFSI, as well as what you get from most rivals. The 0-62mph sprint is dispatched in just 7.7 seconds and that’s truly remarkable for the entry-level version of a small car.

The Mini Cooper is an icon for a multitude of reasons and one of the best-selling new cars on the market hence the brand has taken a careful yet comprehensive approach in overhauling the model for 2024.

How reliable are Mini Coopers?

Like any other car brand, Mini Coopers are generally regarded for their average reliability, though reliability varies depending on the model. For those looking to buy a subcompact for dependability, we advise examining alternative brands and years. Still, the Mini Cooper is a worthy purchase if you’re looking for a chic British classic that’s a blast to drive and has mediocre to above-average reliability.

The Mini Reliability Rating is 3.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 25th out of 32 for all car brands according to RepairPal. This rating is based on an average across 345 unique models. The average annual repair cost for a Mini Cooper is within 500k, which means it has average ownership costs. The other factors that contribute to Mini’s reliability include an average of 0.6 visits to a repair shop per year and a 13% probability of a repair being severe.

The frequency of repairs is another area where the Mini Cooper’s dependability ratings have declined. Compared to the general average of 0.4 visits, the average number of unscheduled repair visits for Minis is approximately 0.6 times greater. Furthermore, 13% of Mini Cooper repairs are deemed severe, which is marginally higher than the 12% average for all repairs.
