Over the years, the Mercedes brand has gone through various design and modification stages with the Mercedes G-Wagen. Literally, we’ve watched the G-Wagen transform into a 6×6 bullet-proof beast. But, despite how popular electric cars are today, the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is yet to catch up.

However, Mercedes has something new in stock for G-Wagen lovers and the general public. The car brand is introducing an all-electric version of the G-Wagen. They’ve only recently released the Mercedes Concept EQG, and according to them, it’s the future of the G-class.
The EQG is not just a concept vehicle. Mercedes has signed off on the production of this all-new G-Wagen. The brand says the EQG will retain over 80 per cent of the concept car.
It’ll also come with some cool features ever seen in a car, like the 360-degree tank turn. The electric G-Wagen will be able to pull off a 360 turn, and Mercedes is calling it the “G-Turn.”

The Design Of The All-Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen
Although the brand is switching the G-Wagen to fully electric to meet modern demands, they also state that the Mercedes will “remain true” to the legacy of the G-class. That’s to say, there will be changes, but the G-Wagen will still retain the signature G-Wagen components it had over the years.
As a result, the all-electric concept has the exact traditional looks the G-Wagen has been known for. However, looking at it, you’ll quickly realize that there are things that have set this new all-electric G-Wagen from the usual ones.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the grille, which isn’t really a grille anymore. The faux grille panel that replaced it comes to life at the touch of a button, as do the illuminated strips on the roof rack and down the car’s sides.
Once you turn this car on, you’ll know it’s no ordinary G-Wagen. The car is two-tone, with gloss black at the top and an aluminium beam at the bottom. At the back, the iconic G-Wagen spare tire has been replaced by a compartment to hold your charging table.
The Interior Of The All-Electric G-Wagen
The concept is covered in white and cream luxury leather and finished with silver carbon fibre on the centre console.
The brand did not add a big infotainment screen, their reason is to continue to stay true to the G-class legacy as a luxury off-roader.
Mercedes also refused to compromise on off-road capabilities, giving the EQG a motor at each wheel for “enormous pulling power and controllability.”
Mercedes insists that the all-electric G-Wagen is built exclusively for off-road adventuring, just like its internal combustion engine predecessor.
How Much Is The All-Electric G-Wagen?
Typically, G-Wagens are expensive. So, this electric version of the G-Wagen will also be pricey. The vehicle is expected to cost $150,000.
The production version of the EV G-Wagen is expected to be ready by 2024.
