Mercedes returns again with one of many upcoming EQ models. Here we have the EQA’s slightly bigger brother, the EQB. Like the EQC and EQA, the EQB started out on its gas variant’s chassis (the GLA/GLB) and was changed to fit EV components, meaning it isn’t a true ground-up EV. The general shape is the same but the body is smoothed out. The general design also includes connected LED lights front and back and can be had in Electric Art appearance or AMG line appearance.

Inside is also similar to the GLB with a 10.25in MBUX infotainment system, a 10.25in digital dash, loads of ambient lighting with 64 colors, and EQ Navigation which helps to plan out charging. Speaking of charging, it gets a 11kW onboard charger with a max of a 100kW, capable of 10%->80% in 30min. This is the Chinese spec model that also will be built in China, though European and American versions will be made in Germany.

Up first is the EQB 250 which is powered by one electric motor on the front wheels. This is fueled by a 66.5kWh battery pack on the floor and makes 188HP. There also will be a Dual Motor AWD version with 268HP. The only official range estimates are from China which hasn’t proven very accurate and says 300miles but Europe’s WLTP standard estimates 260miles.

Whether a large nuclear family or a small extended family: as a seven-seater, the new EQB offers space for many family configurations and a wide variety of transport needs. This gives it an exceptional position not only in the compact segment, but especially among electric cars. The two seats in the third row can be used by people up to 1.65 metres tall, and child seats can also be fitted there. The new EQB will make its debut at Auto Shanghai 2021.
