Mercedes will collaborate with Stellantis and Total Energies to launch a new battery cell company, aiming to manufacture 200 Gigawatt hours with parents over eight plants. This is part of the ACC (Automotive Cells Company), which was created last year by Stellantis and Total Energies and has since been joined by Mercedes.
Under the skin is a 108.7kWh battery pack. The base EQS 450+ has a single rear motor making 329HP and 406 lb-ft of torque. The EQS 580 4Matic has dual motors making 516HP and 611 lb-ft of torque with 0-60 in 4.1sec. This AMG version can make up to 751HP and 752 lb-ft of torque (1,019NM) under certain conditions and can do 0-60 in just 3.4sec with a 155MPH TopSpeed. In regular conditions, it makes 649HP and 700 lb-ft of torque (949NM).
The new company intends to invest more than 7 billion euros in order to produce 120GWh of cells by 2030. This is all rather amusing to me because Mercedes previously worked with the former Stellantis for nearly ten years during the Daimler-Chrysler merger phase, which spanned from 1998 to 2007 and was… a tiny bit of a fiasco.
