BMW has unveiled the Competition xDrive M4 Convertible and it sure isn’t cheap, Competitively priced at ₦42 million and unfortunately, it doesn’t go on sale until October. This is also the first ever AWD M branded M4 convertible! The now fabric roof can open and close in 18sec at up to 31MPH and is 40% lighter than the old metal roof allowing BMW to fill that weight back in with the AWD system.
While the M4 coupe and the M3 can also be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission and a slightly detuned engine, the convertible comes exclusively as the uplevel Competition version, which bumps the power rating of the S58 3.0-liter straight-six to 503 horsepower. Maximum torque is rated at 479 pound-feet, served up from 2750 to 5500 rpm. The engine redlines at 7200 rpm, down from the previous model’s 7600 rpm.
As this is technically the m-xDrive, it means the AWD system is heavily RWD biased. In the normal model, the 4WD default mode is active with power being sent to the rear wheels and only activates the front when traction is needed. 4WD Sport sends more power to the rear axle and a 2WD model only sends power to the rear.
