The recommended retail price for the Lightyear 0 will be $260,000 and there will be 946 units of the car that’ll be made. What does this mean? The Lightyear 0 will reach the hands of many who are anticipating owning a car that can go without fuel, charging and last for months.

What Is the Striking Find-Out From Lightyear 0?

What will immediately strike anyone who sees this car is the black hood. But, be rest assured that the black hood is not carbon fibre but solar panels.

It is fitted with 5m of solar panels on its hood and roof.

The aim of the car was to improve range by reducing weight. What this ironically means is that the car battery is small—60kWh battery, but that’s where the solar panel of the car comes in.

The solar panel gives it up to 70km (43 inches) of extra charge per day; it increases the Lightyear 0’s range from 625km on a single plug-in charge to over 1000km (621 mi).

Although the length of its battery life was measured using a drive from Paris to Spain. It means that you can drive this car for up to a 10 hours journey in Nigeria without charging up.

According to the car company, the estimation is that depending on the climate, you’ll get between 6000-11,000km (3728-6835mi) of additional range of free energy each year just from the solar panels.

Another thing that improves its range is the fact that it has what the company claims is “record-breaking” aerodynamics of just 0.19Cd (drag coefficient).

For instance, a 2021 Tesla Model S has a Cd 0.208 and a Hummer has a Cd 0.64.

Just like its name, the car is incredibly light for an EV at 1575kg, with its bodywork made from recycled carbon fibre.

In the interior, you’ll find vegan leather and fabrics made from recycled PET bottles.
