The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has denied that any of its employees were involved in the truck accident that killed kids on Ogunnusi Road, Grammar School Bus-Stop in Lagos State. As reported by Punch Newspaper, the students were allegedly on their way home after school on Tuesday when the truck ran them over.

This was said in a statement issued on Wednesday by LASTMA’s General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, headed ‘LASTMA disowns role in Ojodu truck accident — General Manager.’

According to Oreagba, the reports were merely allegations that could not be proven, stating that,

“From the reports we received on the incident, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, probably because of mechanical reasons. The police are investigating the matter; the

LASTMA does not have a traffic management duty post around the accident scene. And all patrol personnel had reported back to base for the daily parade as at the time the accident occurred leaving only those at their traffic management posts the public should await their report. ”

He continued by saying that, “In the various unconfirmed reports in some media, not only LASTMA as an agency was fingered but some other government traffic control agencies and wondered how all these agencies would be in pursuit of one truck, a truck that could be apprehended at a later date, that is, if it had committed any traffic infraction”.

He cautioned the media to desist from rushing to the press with unverified claims in order to be the first to break the news. News that may cause public scepticism prior to the disclosure of the facts.

Oreagba expressed condolences to the families of the students who died and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
