Lagos vs. Abuja: Which State Houses The Cheapest Cars in Nigeria

Lagos vs. Abuja, which state has the cheapest cars? Buying a car used to be a luxury, but now it has become a necessity, which is why the price of cars and public transportation is on the rise and doesn’t seem like it will stop anytime soon.

Imagine entering a Danfo bus in the morning from Surulere to Ikeja for 300 (if you stay in Lagos), and while coming back in the evening from Ikeja to Surulere, the conductor shouts at the top of his voice that you are to pay “N700” or get off the bus with immediate effect.

You, being affected by the money scarcity and everything else in Nigeria, only have N400 in your pocket. What would be the next course of action? To wait for another bus, but like usual, they are in cohorts with each other and boast an even worse price of N800. You would probably stand at the bus stop flabbergasted at the price increase, hoping you find a bus at least.

But, with the current situation of the country, well, you are “OYO,” or on your own. Being cashless and without any other means of getting money now, you would have to either order an Uber or become one of those people who beg at bus stops. The first choice is what we believe you would go for, and when you decide to order your Uber and enter your destination, the estimated price will probably be more than N3,000.

With your head hanging low and cursing the government, you would order the ride, hoping the driver would accept the transfer because, at this point, you just want to go home.

But, all these intricacies could have been solved if you owned a car. We know what you are thinking: “Me, who can barely afford N3,000 for Uber, would want to buy a car.” Well, it is quite possible if you have a good savings plan. Even if your salary isn’t up to N100,000, you can get cars as low as N600,000 on Carmart.africa. How is this possible? You cut off your spending, and if you have good credit and a good salary, you can buy an affordable car on Carmart.africa.

But that isn’t the topic of discussion today. We are here to discuss that between the arguably best cities in Nigeria, Lagos and Abuja, which state is cheaper to go to to buy a car?

Lagos is the hub for all things expensive.

Anyone who lives in Lagis will invariably tell you that almost everything doubles in cost every few months. Lagos and spending are like two peas in a pod. It is hard to remove either. But does it apply to cars, and does Abuja win in this regard? This will be difficult to answer with a definite yes or no. The new year brought about a surge in prices for both new and used cars all around the world, but looking at the inflation rate and dollar-to-naira rate, every state would be affected. Cars are hot commodities, and Lagos is the hub for hot things. So, we can tentatively say that car dealers in Lagos tend to inflate the prices more for one reason or the other, with both tokunbo and brand new, and it might be really difficult to get a good used car for N3,000,000; even Toyota and Honda aren’t exempt. So what does this mean? Without a doubt, cars are expensive in Lagos, and private car sellers are taking advantage of this issue.

How do you solve this problem? Do you continue your savings plan towards a car, or do you stick to public transportation? You don’t have to continue to suffer with the transportation tyranny in Lagos. You should consider using Carmart.africa to find the best car that suits the budget you have at hand. You can literally find a car that suits your price without any hassle; from luxury to affordable, you are widely covered.

Moreover, we have to wonder if Abuja has the cutting edge in this regard.

Abuja Is A Promising Choice Until You Read This

Most people believe things from the North are cheaper than those from the South. But, Is it really true? Well, let’s look at some factors. As aforementioned, cars are expensive all over the country, and whether new or used, you would probably eat deep into your pocket to pay for a car. However the popular belief is that cars are inexpensive in Abuja. is not easily founded. Their prices can be more inflated than in Lagos. What is the reason for this? There is a popular belief that Abuja houses the elites, and as such, the prices have to match the lifestyle. Most car dealers, especially private ones, have this notion due to the fact that Abuja is the capital city of the country, and with this, car prices are always booming and on the rise.

Final Verdict

Buying a car isn’t cheap, and finding the right car takes research and patience from both you and the buyer, as well as from the seller. Lagos and Abuja are both megacities, and to answer the question of which is best as regards the affordability of a car, we would have to say choose Lagos, but ensure you do your due diligence and carry along your well-trusted mechanic with you so as to avoid any heartbreak stories. Car dealers never tell the truth when it comes to the faults in their cars.
