Table of Contents
In Nigeria, most people looking for greener pastures are quick to choose Lagos and Abuja as their preferred relocation destinations. This is because, both Lagos and Abuja are rich in various economic activities, businesses as well as opportunities. The two cities have also been a region of tourist attractions as there are many fun places to go and things to enjoy. When it comes to cars, Lagos and Abuja also top the list of states where you will find exotic cars. However, in this article, we want to explore which of these two states has the most expensive or exotic cars.
Let’s decide to use these categories:
Availability Of Good Road
Exotic cars like Lamborghini Aventador, Rolls Royce, and Bugatti Veyron need good roads if anyone is going to enjoy them. These cars worth millions or billions of naira are usually of lower height to provide stability. This means that in bad road conditions, the chassis and beneath of this car would be badly damaged.

Lagos and Abuja do have good roads, however, in Abuja there are more good roads than bad roads compared to Lagos. The Island of Lagos has a greater quality of good roads compared to the mainland. For this reason, exotic car owners are more likely to enjoy riding their expensive cars in Abuja rather than in Lagos.
Traffic Congestion
If it’s a question of traffic, then you probably know the answer already. When it comes to Lagos, traffic is a common occurrence, sometimes for no good reason. Expensive, exotic cars tend to burn fuel a lot compared to regular cars. Hence, if you are stuck in traffic, you can only imagine how many litres of fuel you would have to burn.
Not that Abuja doesn’t have traffic, but it’s not as secure as Lagos. Expensive cars are like assets and a huge investment to whoever buys them. Hence, who would like to leave such a good car ‘suffering’ inside traffic congestion? This makes it easy and more common to see expensive cars roaming the roads of Abuja than in Lagos.
Crime Rate
In Nigeria, there has been so much news of the crime rate being on the increase. However, certain states are more prone to some crimes compared to others. If you pay attention, you will notice that the rate at which law enforcement agencies carry out investigative duties on individuals in Lagos is particularly high. There have been high incidences of especially SARS interrogating people with big and flashy cars in Lagos, suspecting them to be fraudsters or Yahoo boys. While it is true that Yahoo boys tend to drive exotic cars like Mercedes Benz G-y, Ferrari, Audi etc; that can’t be true of everyone who drives exotic cars. However, in Abuja, this incessant harassment by law agencies is not an as prevalent thing as in Lagos.
In addition, Lagos has a higher number of touts compared to Abuja. This is one major reason exotic car owners in Lagos rarely drive their expensive cars to certain places in the mainland. This is usually because these touts tend to extort money from them, and even threaten to destroy their expensive cars or kill them if they don’t give them money. However, in Abuja, incidences like these are few.
Class Of People
Abuja is the capital of Nigeria, it’s the seat of governmental power in the country. There is the office of the President, the House of Senate, the House of assembly, and various embassies located within. This means there are a lot of wealthy and influential expatriates living in this city. With this calibre of people, owning expensive cars like Rolls Royce or Bugatti or Ferrari is no big deal. In fact, some have up to four or more supercars adorning their garage.
Lagos is also an elite state with wealthy people. However, the numbers are not as high as in Abuja. Influential and wealthy people in Lagos tend to have houses and cars in Abuja as well. Hence the number of expensive cars in Abuja is more than in Lagos.
Love For Cars
When it comes to love for cars, both Lagos and Abuja are almost in the same range. In both states, you will find individuals whose taste for expensive cars is high.
