The Lagos State government has distributed 100 vehicles to substantive directors on Grade Level 17, in the state public service through an e-ballot system.

At the handover ceremony, the state’s Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, congratulated the winners, some of whom participated virtually, noting that the cars were not gifts but work tools. He went on to say that 40 vehicles were assigned to Director on GL 17 in the teaching sector, and 30 each to the health and mainstream sectors.

He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy for starting the program. He also said that Governor Sanwo-Olu has promised that the state government will keep running the program as long as there are funds.

Muri-Okunola, therefore, urged all directors who did not win this time around, not to despair but to hope that it will be their turn to celebrate the next time the initiative is held.

The Head of Service stated that the choice of using an e-ballot was to give every substantive director an equal opportunity in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

The Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Mrs Sunkanmi Oyegbola, stated that the process streamed live on Twitter and Facebook was transparent, adding that winners would be verified to ensure eligibility.

In his remarks, Comrade Olusegun Balogun, the chairman of the Lagos State Branch of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, praised the state government for the initiative and noted that it was a significant accomplishment by the current Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
