How To Compare Cars before purchase, how to choose from the best option

You want to buy a car, your money is ready, you’ve done your research proposal and you’ve visited quite a number of showrooms and now you are down to two or three cars but you don’t know which one to choose.

Compare Horsepower

Horsepower (hp) is the metric used to indicate the power produced by a car’s engine – the higher the number, the more power is sent to the wheels and, in theory, the faster it will go.

Heavier cars will need more horsepower to get moving – if two cars both produce 200hp, but one weighs 500kg more, the lighter car will accelerate quicker.

So you will compare the Horsepower of the cars. It is advisable you buy a car with a higher Horsepower. 

Compare Fuel Economy

The fuel economy of an automobile relates to the distance travelled by a vehicle and the amount of fuel consumed. Consumption can be expressed in terms of the volume of fuel to travel a distance, or the distance travelled per unit volume of fuel consumed. It is measured in kilometres per litre.

With the prices of fuel at an all-time high, this is one feature you have to compare before purchasing a car. 

Compare Safety Technology 

This refers to the special technology developed to ensure the safety and security of automobiles and their passengers. While this may not be much of a deal for Nigerians, it is important you compare this to avoid buying a car that can be easily stolen or one without airbags. Some safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Crash Imminent Braking, Dynamic Brake Support, and Pedestrian Emergency Braking. These collision avoidance technologies detect vehicles in front of the car and automatically brake if a crash is detected.

Compare Destination Charges

A destination charge, also called a delivery fee, freight fee or transportation fee, is the fee that an auto manufacturer charges the customer to deliver the vehicle from the factory to the dealership. The dealer does not include this in the ticket price. This may not really apply to you if you are getting your car from a local dealer. But if your car is coming from overseas, you really need to look into destination charges as some could get very expensive. 

Compare Reliability Ratings

Check how reliable the car you are about to buy is, using its reliability ratings. This gives clarity on which car is better when comparing two cars. It is obviously the car with a higher reliability rating that is better for purchase.
