In today’s fast-paced world, the demand for quick and efficient logistics solutions has never been higher. Whether it’s an essential medical supply, a last-minute gift, or an urgent document, the ability to get items delivered on the same day is becoming increasingly vital.

This need for speed is driving innovation in the logistics sector, and one significant transformation is the role of domestic flights in enabling same-day delivery services across Nigeria. While the rise of same-day delivery across Nigeria is a strategy used by logistics companies to gain an edge over competitors, it’s undeniable how this is changing the face of e-commerce, as well, as the Nigerian transportation company.

The Rise of E-commerce and On-Demand Culture:

With more companies striving to outperform competitors in the market, both e-commerce businesses and logistics companies, this has led to the growth and prevalence of on-demand culture, leading to many other companies striving to adopt this business strategy.

One would wonder, “How could a logistic company guarantee the delivery of packages within the space of 24 hours?” Well, the answer is the use of domestic flights. Road vehicles are no longer the only delivery option Logistics companies partner with e-commerce businesses to guarantee their customers receive their packages on time. Domestic flights have been added to the mix. What this means is that across the country, established e-commerce businesses partner with logistic companies affiliated with domestic flight businesses to ensure customers get same-day order delivery.

However, this comes at a price. To ensure any same-day delivery is meant, logistics companies and e-commerce businesses charge higher prices for this, and for some logistics companies, the only way to guarantee such demand depends on the quantity of an item or the value of the item being shipped across to the owner.

One other reason there’s been a surge in the use of domestic flights for same-day order deliveries across Nigeria is due to the heightened state of insecurity across the country. Both sellers, customers and logistics companies want to ensure that packages safely arrive at their destination, as such, they offer this as a delivery option to their customers.

The Challenges of Traditional Ground Transportation:

For the longest years, the popularly known medium for waybills and deliveries has been mainly through road transportation. This does not suggest that domestic flight delivery options are new, however, they weren’t as commonly used as today.

But, what are the issues that are gradually leading to the decline of road transportation delivery options? There are so many factors that have contributed to this. They include:

  • Traffic Challenges

Traffic congestion is one of the main issues many logistics companies across Nigeria have to deal with. Often, due to traffic issues, a delivery of two days could take up to four to five days until it arrives at its destination.

  • Poor Road Conditions

While traffic contributes significantly to the challenges logistics companies face while using road transportation to run their business, the poor nature of roads in Nigeria significantly contributes to these issues as well. Often delaying travel or causing car troubles that require time before they can be fixed.

  • Insecurity

Insecurity is now synonymous with road travel in Nigeria, and as such, this equally affects logistics companies when it comes to efficiently operating and running their business. There’s the fear of drivers getting robbed, items stolen, or in worst-case scenarios, drivers getting killed and vehicles getting burnt.

  • Long Travel Routes

The long-distance involved with road travel poses a challenge for logistics companies in Nigeria. A typical Nigerian road travel could last 24 hours on the road, making it a challenge for logistics companies to guarantee same-day delivery.

Advantages of Using Domestic Flight for Order Delivery

All the challenges faced with road transportation delivery have become the advantages of domestic flight order delivery. They’ve emerged as game-chargers for logistic companies in Nigeria, helping them run businesses efficiently, and increase their ability to meet the demands of customers.

This has been greatly enabled by the expansion of technology. Without the presence of technology, there wouldn’t be other transportation means like aeroplanes that enable logistic companies to effectively run their businesses.

On the other hand, technology has enabled many logistics companies not only in timely delivery, but also to ensure customers can keep track of their orders, and get notified when they arrive. Customers can also communicate easily with representatives of logistics companies to gain additional information concerning their orders.

How Logistics Companies are Embracing Change & Innovation

Many logistics companies in Nigeria are beginning to embrace same-day delivery practices and some of the known ones include:

  • DHL
  • GIG Logistics
  • Red Star Delivery Service
  • RedEx Delivery
  • TransRoyal Courier

Same-day delivery is gradually changing the face of logistic businesses. In recent years, an increasing number of transportation companies have started implementing this strategy into how they run their businesses. This new policy, only means that demands will continue to increase significantly given the value buyers get from same-day delivery services.

However, there are still a host of challenges companies will have to face when it comes to implementing same-day delivery in Nigeria. There’s the issue of flight delays prevalent with airlines like AirPeace, and there will also be the issue of higher running costs, as the charges airlines task logistic companies will be greater than the cost of road transportation services.

As such while same-day delivery helps to guarantee customer satisfaction, in a country like Nigeria, the prevalence of domestic flight delivery services for same-day delivery is not yet widespread, and those who partake mostly in it are those who can afford the exorbitant cost of same-day deliveries compared to longer days delivery.

In Nigeria, same-day delivery services are still at the seminal stage. Companies, both e-commerce and logistic companies are still figuring out the technicalities surrounding its operation across the country. Still, with the continuous expansion of businesses, and business owners looking for viable ways to keep their customers satisfied, it’s only a matter of time before the wave of same-day domestic flight delivery takes over from road transport delivery services.
