According to a survey, Nigeria has been shown to be the most expensive African country to buy a car from compared to other neighbouring West African countries such as Ghana.
The price difference between the two countries (Ghana and Nigeria) is great and this could be a result of things like inflation, dollar rates and other factors.
In Nigeria, the average price of a car is $19,547 dollars which is about N3.9 million while that of Ghana is about $18,923 and $17,654 respectively. From the studies, Nigeria and Ghana rank the top two most expensive countries to buy a car.

Even though Nigerians mostly buy used cars, the country still has a high demand for cars. Even the middle class has grown three times larger in the last decade and a half and very few brand new cars have been purchased.
The main reason why Nigerians may not be purchasing brand new cars, unlike in Ghana, is because of the lack of vehicle financing options as finance institutions give car loans with very high-interest rates. If affordable loan options are given to aid people who wish to own locally manufactured cars, then Nigerians would buy brand new cars.
Ghana would be said to have the least expensive cars out of the two because most cars in Ghana are not imported, they are majorly built. So comparing the charges that would be put on imported cars such as custom fees and shipping fees, Nigeria charges higher and therefore Nigeria has more expensive cars than Ghana.
However, Nigerian manufacturers such as Innoson Vehicles, Nord Automobiles, Kia Nigeria and Geely Motors are coming up to reduce the burden put on shipping fees and causing high prices in vehicles which put Nigeria as one of the top three most expensive places to buy cars from in West Africa.
Top Expensive Cars Spotted In Ghana And Nigeria
Nigeria
In Nigeria, having a car is a prestige especially when it is a fancy and expensive car that comes with comfort, class and a fast and running engine but most of these cars come at expensive prices. The following are the top expensive cars you would find in Nigeria:
- Maybach 62s
A Maybach 62S reportedly cost over N182 million. The model was one of the first Maybach brands to be produced along with the Maybach 57. E-money shared photos of himself posing beside a Maybach 62S on his Instagram page. It is no surprise that E-money can afford a car as expensive as the Maybach 62S, as he is known for living an expensive lifestyle.
- Mercedes Brabus G700
As a vehicle that costs up to N180 million, it is definitely one of the top expensive vehicles you can find in Nigeria. If you have ever thought that Mercedes cars were the epitome of luxury, you need to check out the models from the Brabus department, as their styling, mechanics, and the thrill of driving are well worth their price.
This new concept car is known as the BRABUS 800 BLACK & GOLD Edition. It has a striking resemblance to the styled BRABUS WIDESTAR widebody version with numerous carbon elements and 23-inch BRABUS Monoblock Y “Platinum Edition” hi-tech forged wheels painted gold to contrast with the black vehicle body.
- Brabus Bullit Coupe 800
This Brabus was found on Lagos Street and is said to be worth over 90 million Naira. The BRABUS BULLIT Coupe 800 seamlessly continues the tradition of high-performance supercars from Bottrop. It is based on the two-door Mercedes C63 AMG model and in place of the 6.3-litre fast-revving V8 that powers the production car, a twelve-cylinder engine in BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo specification lurks beneath the matte-black exterior.
- Range Rover Sentinel
This Range Rover Sentinel was spotted in Abuja and is said to be worth over N89 million naira, which is a whopping large sum of money to spend on a car. It was designed to face modern, unconventional forms of attack. This now includes defence against Improvised Explosive Devices, with Range Rover Sentinel tested to STANAG 4569 against a powerful mine positioned to the side of the vehicle and from behind the front wheel.
- Rolls Royce Phantom
For various Nigerian celebrities, this has been a favourite choice of car. Each new collection continues to provide a thrilling sensation to many Nigerian billionaires. Jimoh Ibrahim, a billionaire with business interests scattered all over Nigeria, has a very expensive Rolls Royce in his fleet of cars. Jim Ovia, Femi Otedola, and Bola Shagaya are also in this class of Rolls Royce lovers. This car costs over N82 million.
- Bentley Mulsanne price
The Bentley Mulsanne boasts a formidable road presence. The crisp, sharp lines and the sweeping curves of the car and interior are simply magnificent. It presents the finest hides and tasteful veneers throughout the cabin. Aliko Dangote has his name mentioned on the list of Nigerian billionaires who own the Bentley Mulsanne. This car is worth over N60 million.
GHANA
Ghana does not have the strongest or the greatest economy in the world but is amongst the top countries in West Africa to have the most expensive cars, after Nigeria. These are the top most expensive cars that move on the streets of Ghana:
- Aston Martin Rapide S
Aston Martin’s long history of bespoke, hand-made luxury was on display in the execution of the Rapide S interior. Using the finest leathers, a vast array of woods and other luxurious materials, each cabin was crafted by hand with absolute precision. In each embroidered ‘AML’ logo there are over five thousand stitches, intricately placed to create the perfect finish. A 6.0-litre V12 engine is positioned behind the centreline of the front wheels and mounting the eight-speed Touchtronic III transaxle at the rear concentrates the major masses of Rapide S within the wheelbase, achieving a near-perfect weight distribution. The vehicle costs $247200 (Over N102 million).
- Ferrari California
The California T is Ferrari’s softest range, designed for daily ease and use. It even has a cup holder and is powered by a 552-horsepower 3.9-litre V-8 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. The T is plenty quick and agile, though not as rewarding as the mid-engine 488. The price of this car is over N96 million
- Mercedes-Maybach
This Mercedes-Maybach was spotted in Ghana being used as a taxi for commercial purposes which caused reactions. Even Ghanaian businessman, Nana Kwame Bediako, aka Freedom Jacob Caesar, bought two customised Mercedes-Maybach S650 sedans for himself. The luxury car is said to be $195,000 (over N81 million).
- Maserati
This luxurious car has been spotted in Ghana in the hands of celebrities such as Jackie Appiah, Shatta Wale and Sonnie Badu. Being spotted in this Italian luxury car is definitely one of the symbols of corporate and industrial success in my opinion. The car costs $148,300 (Over N61 million).
Both Ghana and Nigeria have a significant number of affluent individuals and a growing middle class, which has led to an increased demand for luxury cars in both countries. The presence of expensive cars is noticeable in major cities in both Ghana and Nigeria.
In terms of overall affluence and the presence of high-end luxury cars, Nigeria is often considered to have a larger market and more affluent individuals compared to Ghana. Nigeria has a relatively larger population and is also known for its booming oil industry, which has contributed to a higher concentration of wealth in the country.
