Flights disrupted as aviation workers lock down Lagos airport terminal

All flights in and out of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos were suspended early on Tuesday as aviation workers went on strike. The strike, which started over the sacking of some of their members by a company known as BASL, led to the closure of the airport’s Terminal 2.

The American Sports and Social Action Network (ATSSSN) issued a seven-day ultimatum to the management of MMA2 to reverse the sacking of more than 30 workers or face picketing. The union also demanded that BASL pay its members’ terminal entitlements and reinstate their leave of absence. It accused the company of conducting a witch-hunting campaign.

According to the union, the management of BASL failed to implement the conditions of the service agreement signed with its members in 2021. It accused the company of laying off its executives and members without following due process. Ben Nnabue, the president of NUATE, stated that the company did not follow due process in implementing the layoffs.
