It’s no longer anticipation of its arrival because the long-awaited hardcore G-Class Mercedes G-Wagen 4 x 4 is finally back, and has arrived with the insane off-road capabilities and a big V8 engine. This was announced by Mercedes last week on their members-only website—“The G-Class Private Lounge.”

While the last 4 x 4 model was based on the lesser G550, this new extreme G-Class comes based on the full-fat AMG G63.
What this means is that it will be one of the twin-turbo AMG V8, making 585HP (430kW) in this guise. That’s a big increase compared to its last 4 x 4s 416HP (320kW).
Mercedes has also hinted that this will be the “End of the Line” for the petroleum-powered model.

What does this mean? It means that come 2024, a new version of the G63 4 x 4 will come forward. This model coming in 2024 will be a fully-electric EQC.
There are several great features that accompany the car but the one that most stands out of this G-Wagen is its portal axles, which make the excellent ride height and ground clearance possible for off-roading.
The jacked-up G-Wagen has 351mm (13.8inches) of clearance – 109.2mm (4.3 inches) more than the standard G63, but 83.8 mm (3.3in) less than the old G550 4 x 4.
What makes it better to be driven on the road is the new G-Wagen’s independent suspension; on older models, solid axles were featured.
Surprising Performance Level Of The 4 X 4 Mercedes G63
Surprisingly, this car can also move through up to 910mm (36inches) of water and can climb up grades of up to 45 degrees. I don’t know about you but it seems like Mercedes had Nigerians’ roads in mind while making this car.
Interesting Facts & Features Of The 4 X 4 Mercedes G63
Another interesting thing that Mercedes has introduced with this brand new G-Wagen is that there are 40 available colours it can be customized as. That’s to say if you are not okay with the colour of this G-Wagen you can ask the brand to repaint it for you after purchase.
You’ll find several carbon-fibre exterior trims everywhere you look—from the roof spoiler to the wheel arches, and the door protectors to the spare wheel cover.
The inside can also be extensively customized with diamond-stitched Nappa leather and carbon fibre trim through the G Manufaktur program.
Other features are the ambient lighting in the air vents and a digital mirror.
This is very much still a recent release by Mercedes and as such, the brand is yet to confirm how much this Mercedes G-Wagen G63 4 x 4 will cost, or when it will be available.
However, if we looked at the previous G550 4 X 4, the market price started at $227,300 when it was first released. While this could give you an idea of what the price of this Mercedes G-Wagen would be, there’s also the possibility that it’ll be slightly higher than the old model due to its newer features and the ongoing economic situation.
How Long Will It Be In The Market?
Another thing that Mercedes has confirmed through its head of product management for G-Class, Toni Mäntele, at the reveal for the G-Class Private Lounge members, is that “it’s only available for a limited time.”
Conclusion
There’s no date nor price set out for it yet but Mercedes has said it won’t stay long in the market. Perhaps, this might be the brand’s way of doing a final clearance sale on the petroleum-powered model, making way for the future of the fully-electric G-Wagen.
