Differences Between Suvs And Sedans

Cars are transport means that are designed with four wheels and are used to carry passengers and sometimes, cargoes. The first-ever vehicle was a carriage with a pedal and that was later followed by a steam-powered car which was made in the 18th century and early 19th century. The first-ever internal combustion-powered car was introduced in the late 19th century that and it evolved to another type of car which is the gasoline internal combustion engine-powered cars we have today. Cars can come in several designs and body styles depending on the manufacturers. 

Sedan Cars

The sedan is the most common type of car you can find around. It features three different compartments for the passenger, cargo and engine. The passenger compartment has two rows of seats and the cargo is usually at the rear end while the engine is in front. They usually have ground clearance and have four doors but some manufacturers produce theirs with two doors. The cars also have fixed window frames and they are fully closed cars.

Sedans can come in several types such as Notchback, Fastback, Two-door, Hardtop, Hatchback and Chauffeured.

Sport Utility Vehicle (Suv)

A Sport Utility Vehicle also known as SUV is a vehicle that is designed more like a station wagon but the chassis is like that of a light truck. It may or may not be manufactured with a four-wheel-drive which allows it to be used on or off-road. It is usually manufactured with the combined features of a pickup truck, a large sedan and a minivan. It can also be 4WD, 4×4 or by the brand name itself. The four-wheel-drive SUVs can be used on off-roads but they are mostly for paved roads. They are very expensive to maintain because of their size and weight which make them consume more fuel than Sedans. SUVs body structure is an engine compartment, a combined passenger and cargo compartment that have three rows of seats. They also have ground clearance and a boxy body which gives them a high centre of gravity.

Major Differences Between Suv And Sedan

1. The SUV is majorly a sports utility vehicle and has seven seaters but the Sedan is more of a regular family vehicle which has 4-5 seats for passengers. They are the most common types of cars.
2. SUVs have more ground clearance than most Sedans have.
3. While the SUV has a separate compartment for the engine and joined compartment for the passenger and cargo, the Sedan has three separate compartments for the engine, cargo and passenger space.
4. SUVs are bigger which makes them consume more fuel but Sedans are smaller versions so they are fuel-efficient cars.
5. When it comes to rough terrains and heavy loads, the SUVs are designed for such. The Sedans are basically made to just suit one’s comfort.
6. SUVs require more maintenance while Sedans do not.
7. SUVs are generally big cars so they need more parking space but the Sedans compact so they can adjust to any parking space.
