On April 27, 2023, a big news broke out when Davido announced that he had purchased one of the 150 limited-edition 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S 680 designed to honour the late Virgil Abloh, who was a designer and Mercedes’ head designer, Gordon Wagener, who worked together to create this car model. Mercedes confirmed that the design was finalised before Abloh’s death in November of 2021.
Initially, it was believed that Davido was the only African to own this car model, but later, Cubana Chief Priest made a post confirming that another Nigerian billionaire, Matthew Awotunde, CEO of Whitestone Jewellers LTD, also owns the 2023 Mercedes-Maybach Virgil Abloh. According to CP, the car was purchased from Swizz Beatz and his wife Alicia Keys, but it’s unclear how the couple sold it to Awotunde.
The Maybach S 680 is a luxury car scheduled to be released in 2023 by Mercedes-Benz. It is the successor to the Maybach S 650 and is expected to be powered by a V12 engine capable of producing up to 621 horsepower. This limited-edition car model is one of only 150 units to be produced globally.
