After fleeing to Umumeni Village and then to Umuduru, his mother’s village, he moved to Lagos in 1989 and joined a mentor. Though he struggled at first, he suddenly became a multimillionaire and a prominent person. There were rumours that he did money rituals to amass his wealth.
In Lagos, he owned the Ezego Shopping Complex on Allen Avenue (with a branch in Abuja) and the Ezego Plaza on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road. He also owned several other companies, including Vic-Winners International Limited, Ezego Nigeria Limited, Ezego Holdings Limited, Vitex Zinc Co. Limited, and Ezego Properties Limited.
Ezego used his wealth to build numerous houses, mansions, and villas throughout Nigeria. One of his houses was even made entirely of glass. In 1999, he had a real estate outside Ihiala that was worth around half a billion naira. Another mansion he owned, used as his country home in Ihiala, was worth N500 million. The marble used for the walls of this mansion was imported from Italy.

Victor was a great lover of cars and had one of the largest private car garages in all of Africa in those days. He used to purchase the latest vehicles and keep them in his garages at Ihiala and Lagos. At one point, his garage alone was valued at almost 1 billion naira. He once paid N14 million just to acquire two posh cars: a Sedan Lincoln Continental Mark 8 and a Mercedes Benz convertible from Moontrends. At the time of his death, he left behind countless state-of-the-art cars, 70 houses all over Nigeria and overseas and over N10 billion naira in his bank account.
He was married to Laurita Nkechi, a princess from Akata in Imo State, and they had eight children together. However, he also had kids with other women apart from his wife, Nkechi. When Ezego died, there was a lot of controversy among his family members. Although his life was very mysterious and controversial, his death was even more so.
Ezego died on December 25, 1999, at the age of 35. He was preparing to go to his hometown in Ihiala, where he would bless many people with bounties and impress people with his wealth, as was his normal tradition. Before going home, Ezego used to visit Afrikan Shrine, where he met with Femi Kuti, to ensure all went smoothly.
The party was scheduled to start from the night of Christmas to Boxing Day (26th), so Ezego decided to start his trip from Lagos on the 23rd of December. But little did he know that all his efforts were in vain. He was unconsciously planning for his funeral.
It was a tragic incident, but what exactly happened? Ezego had planned to take a flight from Lagos to Enugu, and then travel by convoy to Ihiala. However, due to the high rate of air crashes during that period, he changed his mind. Unfortunately, this decision turned out to be fatal for the wealthy businessman.
Instead of flying, Victor took a Cherokee car, but it had a problem on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and eventually broke down in Asaba. Worried that the car would be stolen, he decided to tow it with a Lexus car to Ihiala.
HIS DEATH
However, just two kilometres away from their destination, Ezego hit a pothole and accidentally hit the brakes. This caused the Cherokee car to hit the Lexus car, and both vehicles tumbled into a ditch, leaving Ezego with a serious head injury.
Those in his convoy made frantic and desperate efforts to get him out of the ditch and get him the most effective medical attention promptly. By the time they finally succeeded in getting Ezego out of the ditch, he had sustained a deep gash and his face was massively puffed up, thus disfiguring his handsome face.
He was rushed to the nearby Lady of Lourdes Hospital (where Ezego incidentally donated N15 million naira a few years before the accident).
He was still alive and stable when they brought him to the hospital and all the medical workers went into overdrive to save the life of a man they knew as a mentor and generous giver. However, things got worse and to make matters even more frightening, there was no doctor on duty. By the time a medical doctor eventually showed up, Ezego was already bleeding through his mouth, he was having internal bleeding and was already in shock. All attempts to stabilize him failed.
At that point, his family members suggested that he be quickly moved to a better-equipped hospital in Port Harcourt. At this point, his tale becomes hazy as it is not known whether he finally died while he was on his way to Port Harcourt or while he was being prepared for a flight to Lagos from Port Harcourt. Ezego died on the 26th, Boxing Day. He was just 34.
