In a recent video that surfaced online, a Nigerian man expressed his happiness after he spotted the Tesla in Lagos.
From the video that was posted online by @carcontinent, the man’s voice could be heard from the background saying: “It’s a good day to see a Tesla in Lagos… I think I like it. Nigerians have started accepting these cars whether you like it or not not. It looks good. We have to accept it. We have to. The more we have, the more stuff comes up.”
The man believes that Tesla cars are already capturing the hearts of many Nigerians, and it’s only a matter of time before it dominates everywhere in Nigeria.
He goes further to say in the caption:
“A good day to spot a Tesla in Lagos, truth is very soon we will have alot of them in Nigeria and we will adapt to the system of charging and all. If you like keep fighting and shouting no light, People who have the money will adapt to the situation and purchase these cars.”
Will Tesla Cars Really Dominate in Nigeria?
While the video shows the excitement over spotting a Tesla in Nigeria, and the potential of it becoming popular in the country, there are a few things that need to be put into consideration before making such an assumption.
While there’s a growing interest in electric cars in Nigeria, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about whether or not they will become popular in the country. It’s not just about the fact that they require electricity for charging. But also the fact that electric cars are twice as expensive compared to gas-powered vehicles.
While there might be a potential shift in the number of people who own Teslas and other electric cars in Nigeria, the reality is that this type of vehicle will continue to remain mostly popular among wealthy Nigerians, or those in high-paying jobs. For the average Nigerian, being able to afford a decent used vehicle is still the bulk of their challenge.
