2021 Mercedes Benz GLS63 Preview
2021 Mercedes Benz GLS63 for sale – The GLS 63 is all-new for 2021, arriving after a brief pause when the previous generation ended production after the 2019 model year. In 2020, the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class underwent a full redesign. While this redesign was comprehensive, it was far from revolutionary, which is typical of Mercedes. With this new look still fresh, we expect no major changes when the 2021 GLS-Class arrives, except for the much-anticipated arrival of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600.

Although the GLS63‘s starting price is deep into the six-figure realm, we’d still suggest a few options sure to please the whole family. For one thing, the Warmth and Comfort package is a nice bundle for those in northern climates, as it adds heated door panels, heated armrests, and a heated centre console. We’d also suggest the Energizing package which includes the in-cabin fragrance diffuser and the Acoustic Comfort package, and also adds increased cabin insulation for a quieter interior. Mercedes-AMG also offers a host of standalone features that may catch your eye, including the bonkers 23-inch multi-spoke forged wheels that look just perfect when framed within the GLS63’s muscular wheel wells.

Under its hood, the new-generation GLS-Class comes in two flavours. The base model is the GLS450 with a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine paired to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that pumps out 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The GLS580 bumps it up to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with the same mild-hybrid system for 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. There are no details on the Maybach GLS600’s powertrain, but it could include a more powerful 4.0-litre V8 that sits in the 550- to 575-hp range.

Mercedes-AMG also offers a host of standalone features that may catch your eye, including the bonker’s 23-inch multi-spoke forged wheels that look just perfect when framed within the GLS63’s muscular wheel wells. The price for the GLS63 4Matic will start from the ₦62.5 million MSRP range.
2021 Mercedes Benz GLS63 Interior
Three rows of seating and interior styling that’s slightly sportier versus the Benz-branded GLS-class sets the GLS 63 apart from two-row SUV powerhouses.
Front-seat occupants can enjoy a massage while blasting down the Interstate, and passenger space is generous in the second row, which can also be equipped with heated seats and power sunshades. The third row of seats is tight for adults but perfectly suitable for children. Cargo space is the same as the standard GLS-class, which in our testing fit four carry-on suitcases behind its third row and 30 in total behind the front seats.
2021 Mercedes Benz GLS63 Performance
Under the hood of the GLS63 is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine that makes a whopping 603 horsepower with the help of a 48-volt hybrid system. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a nine-speed automatic transmission and air suspension. We were blown away by the 2021 GLS63’s performance at our test track as it out-accelerated several hot sports cars we’ve tested recently, tearing off a blistering 3.6-second zero-to-60-mph run. For comparison, the old GLS63—which made a mere 577 horsepower—managed a none-too-shabby 4.3-second zero-to-60-mph run.
Fuel Economy
The EPA hasn’t released any fuel-economy estimates for the 2021 GLS63, but with an engine that powerful, we aren’t holding out hope for economy-car efficiency ratings. On our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route the GLS63 delivered a decent 22 mpg; the GLS63’s main rival—the BMW X7 M50i—managed 24 mpg in the same test.
The AMG GLS comes in one flavour (for now), and that’s the GLS 63. Like the more sedate 483-horsepower GLS 580 SUV, the 63 uses a twin-turbocharged V8 that also features a small 48-volt electric motor attached to the crankshaft.
