Autotrader Name Honda, Kia, Toyota Highlander 7 Others as Best 2020 Car

The Autotrader Best New Cars Award is intended to benefit a broad set of shoppers by highlighting a diverse group of 12 vehicles. Each vehicle on this year’s list was agreed upon unanimously by the entire editorial and data team at Autotrader. To be considered, a vehicle must be of the current or next model-year and available for purchase at the time of the announcement. The editors capped the base price for consideration at  ₦28.4 million (although most vehicles on the list are well under), meaning they offer significant value for the asking price. Not only was value a top priority, but vehicles also were judged on available technology and rewarding or dynamic driving experience. Each winning car had to score an overall 3.9 or higher on the editors’ 5-point evaluation sheet.

2020 Kia Telluride

The Kia Telluride is one of the Best New Cars of 2020, according to Autotrader.  The honor is just the latest accolade for Kia’s bold and boxy SUV, which continues to earn acclaim for segment leadership, innovation, design, safety, driver satisfaction, and overall value.

“The Kia Telluride is the best three-row SUV you can get right now. In every aspect, they got it just right – space, looks, equipment, technology, comfort  – it’s all there,” said Brian Moody, executive editor for Autotrader. “A real high-point is the interior. The clean lines and uncluttered look make it both functional and attractive. The understated elegance effectively splits the line between everyday utility and uncommon luxury. If a three-row SUV is in your future, consider the made-in-America Telluride, it’s really, really good.”

2020 Mazda CX-30

Shoehorned between the CX-3 and CX-5, the new Mazda CX-30 is a unique take on Mazda’s classic crossover formula. Using the new Mazda3 as its base, the CX-30 borrows the same 2.5-liter engine and six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the Mazda3’s same updated cabin, as well. The CX-30 is currently on sale and costs 9 million Naira to start. Mazda has built a reputation for building athletic SUVs in segments where performance and handling are normally missing. You won’t get bored behind the wheel of any new Mazda model, including the CX-30. “If you are in the market for a small crossover but still want particularly good handling, this could be the vehicle for you,” Ben said of the new Mazda.

2020 Toyota Highlander

The third midsize 3-row crossover from a volume brand on our list this year is the all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander. The Highlander is a good SUV and has been a leader in this segment since it was first introduced almost 20 years ago and its dominance continues with the freshly redesigned fourth generation.

Toyota introduced an all-new Highlander as three-row crossovers remain sales kings. The all-new model, which rides on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA)) family, presents an evolutionary design that’s familiar, borrowing from the RAV4 and Avalon. There are two powertrains – gas or gas-electric hybrid. The 3.5-liter V6 carries over unchanged. The hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder instead of the previous gen’s 3.5-liter V6. The hybrid’s Horsepower is down, but it makes up for it with improved fuel economy.

2020 Subaru Outback

The all new 2020 Subaru Outback is a very good family car. Subaru intentionally didn’t mess with the look too much because Subaru people like the Subaru look. However, when you step inside, the redesign becomes much more apparent. Naturally, AWD is standard on every trim which, combined with generous ground clearance and Subaru’s X-Mode, gives the Outback some serious off-road chops while still being a pleasure to drive on the road.

2020 Lincoln Aviator

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator made it to the top 12 of the Autotrader best 2020 cars, The midsize Aviator came on the scene to a lot of fanfare following the launch of the outstanding new Navigator in 2018 and the Aviator is a very good luxury SUV and lives up to the expectations that were set by its big brother. In fact, many of our editors like the Aviator better because of it’s the interior layout and more urban-friendly size.

2020 Hyundai Sonata

You may not have expected to see two Hyundai models on this list, but the 2020 Hyundai Sonata makes a strong case as a class leader in the competitive midsize sedan segment. Its redesign brought with it a stunning new look, a roomy, premium interior, and a generous list of standard features, plus some interesting available tech when you get into the higher trims like remote parking assist that helps with tight parking spaces. That’s a feature you’d normally expect to see in a much more expensive luxury car. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is offered as a hybrid as well.

2020 Hyundai Palisade

Autotrader editor Tara is also enthusiastic about where Hyundai is in 2020 and where the brand is headed in the new decade. “Hyundai is killing it at the moment! 2020 Jeep Gladiator

2020 Chevrolet Corvette

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 is a huge milestone for the legendary nameplate. The basic formula of the Corvette has been unchanged for decades as a two-seater sports car with a V8 in the front powering the rear wheels. The 2020 Ford Expedition is the only car on this list that is not an all-new model or a full redesign for 2020. That’s because we wanted to put a full-size SUV on this list and there just aren’t any all-new ones for 2020 since this segment only has a handful of players. The Expedition got a big redesign for 2018 and it’s been aging tremendously well ever since as a roomy and capable family hauler.

2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid

The 2020 Honda CR-V ranks among the leaders of the compact SUV class. Its passenger and cargo volumes eclipse those of most rivals, and its well-balanced ride and capable powertrain make it a great daily drive

Honda has discontinued the LX’s former lethargic non-turbocharged engine and equipped it with the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that in the past was reserved for the CR-V’s more expensive trim levels. The CR-V’s suite of safety features is also standard for 2020, meaning even the most affordable CR-V provides adaptive cruise control and the latest crash prevention technology. 2020 Nissan Sentra

The 2020 Nissan Sentra is all-new, with styling that matches other recently unveiled Nissans such as the Altima and Rogue. The same V-Motion family grille, slim headlights, and a floating roof are all here with the Sentra. A new platform lowers the car while a slightly more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine replaces the outgoing 1.8-liter. The new mill makes 149 horsepower, and it pairs with a CVT. Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 is also standard.
